Blessed be the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Welcome to study the scriptures, the Word of our God which is a lamp to our foot, and a light to our path.(Psalm119:105).
The journey of the children of Israel is a lesson for us, for those of us who travel from earth to our Canaan (heaven). So if we study in detail, what that journey was like we will be able to know the precautions we should take in our journey to heaven.
The Scriptures say that the children of Israel were delivered from Egypt by a mighty hand, but when they were in the wilderness on their way to Canaan, they encountered a few challenges, which caused them to murmur against God, and even to the point of longing to return to Egypt.
Numbers 14:3 “And wherefore hath the LORD brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return into Egypt?
4 And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt”.
Numbers 11:4 “And the mixt multitude that was among them fell a lusting: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat?
5 We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick:
6 But now our soul is dried away: there is nothing at all, beside this manna, before our eyes”.
And the scriptures say by murmuring there, and by longing to return to Egypt, they have already returned to Egypt in their hearts, though in the flesh they are still in the wilderness.
Acts 7:39 “To whom our fathers would not obey, but thrust him from them, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt,
40 Saying unto Aaron, Make us gods to go before us: for as for this Moses, which brought us out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him”.
That is why of all the people who murmured and longed to return to Egypt, none entered the land of Canaan, all died in the wilderness. Why ?, because physically they were out of Egypt but in spirit / heart they were in Egypt. And because the inner desire speaks more than the outward appearance, they all perished in the wilderness without getting to where they were going.
Another person we can learn from is Lot’s wife, whom the Lord said “remember her” (Luke 17:32).
Lot’s wife had indeed begun the journey from Sodom, and most of all she was completely saved (and apparently when she left she came out in Peace and very happy as the children of Israel came out of Egypt) .. but the bible says when she got ahead of the journey she TURNED BACK !! ..
It means that, his thoughts, his thoughts, his desires, longed again for the Sodom he came from… Maybe he got to a place and started complaining a lot about Lot, and God, why from there, a good place and they go a bad place .. and just for that mistake. (of returning to Sodom with his heart) .. before God he seemed ready to suffer the same punishment as the people of Sodom and Gomorrah, no matter his body was not in Sodom. And so he turned into a pillar of salt. It is true that he was gone, he was saved, his body is no more in Sodom, but his heart is in Sodom.
Now these things written in the bible concerning the children of Israel and Lot’s wife, the scripture says they were not written just for our enjoyment! Or to grieve us, but it was written for us so that we would not learn to repeat mistakes like theirs.
1Corinthians 10:6 “Now these things were our examples
the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.7 Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.
8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.
9 Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.
10 Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.
11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall”.
Brother / sister, remember when you are saved, it is like you started your journey out of Egypt, or Sodom… This world is compared to Sodom and Egypt (Revelation 11: 8). So we must really come out of Egypt with our bodies and our hearts! .. not only with our bodies but also with our hearts !.
It means that when we confess Jesus, we must renounce the world physically and spiritually, we must abstain from drunkenness, both physical and spiritual, we must abstain from physical and spiritual immorality, as the Lord said in…
Matthew 5:27 “Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart”.
So if we say we do not commit adultery, and in our hearts we provoke them to jealousy, yet our hearts are still in Egypt, though physically we are out of Egypt, When we are saved and say we are not murderers, not abortions, only (Matthew 5: 21-22) and we are still in Egypt spiritually, although physically we are headed for Canaan which we will not reach.
So if you are in Egypt and your heart is in Canaan, then you are still in Egypt, it does not help you at all! You have to leave Egypt, it means you are in the world but you have a desire to get to heaven, every day you say one day I will be saved, one day I will change, one day I will stop wearing half naked clothes, one day I will stop selling myself, one day I will stop drinking. it will not come, and you will die in Sodom. This is the time to save our souls. By deciding to be truly saved and not to be lukewarm. Because the Lord said that all the lukewarm people he will vomit out of his mouth (Revelation 3:15).
May the Lord help us to be truly saved, to come out of Egypt and Sodom spiritually and physically .
Maran atha!
