We have already seen that, on the Day of Judgment, there will be people who will receive rewards equal to those who suffered all their lives in the service of God. The reason or basis for God doing this has already been shown in the Scriptures. If you missed the previous teaching, send us a message in our inbox and we will share it with you.
Now, let’s continue by examining the second criterion God will use to reward His people. We find this in Matthew 24:44–51.
2) There will be people who will be set over all of God’s work in heaven.
You might ask: Does this mean there are some who will not be placed over God’s work on that day? The answer is yes. Let’s go straight to the passage and examine the specific criterion that Jesus uses to determine this reward.
Matthew 24:44-51 (KJV)
44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.
45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?
46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
47 Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.
48 But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming;
49 And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;
50 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,
51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
In this passage, we see that a certain master (a symbol of Jesus) goes away without telling when he will return, but leaves a servant in charge of his household to ensure that people are fed and cared for in his absence.
But if that servant begins to think the master is delayed, and starts mistreating others, neglecting his duty, and instead indulging himself, the master will return suddenly and severely punish him.
However, if he finds the servant faithfully fulfilling his duties, the master promises to set him over all his possessions.
This is a profound truth. Today, if you are a servant of God — whether a pastor, prophet, teacher, apostle, singer, or you serve in any capacity for the building of God’s Kingdom — know that the Lord is watching to see your faithfulness in ministry at all times.
Jesus may return suddenly — either through death or the rapture. When He comes, He should find you actively and faithfully serving.
But if you begin to neglect God’s work and treat it like a business — only ministering when paid, abandoning your pastoral responsibilities, falling into immorality with church members, refusing to teach, or being lazy in evangelism — then know this: you are in danger of losing your eternal reward.
God is not pleased with servants who work only when it suits them. If you only serve when you’re in the mood, you’re treating the holy work of God with contempt.
This kind of reward — being put over all of God’s possessions — will pass you by.
God’s work must be a lifestyle, not a convenience. If you are truly called by the Lord, don’t allow unnecessary excuses or worldly distractions to cause the purpose of God to fade away inside you.
But if you remain steadfast in your calling — like the faithful servant Jesus spoke of, who gave food to others at the proper time — Jesus promises to set you over all His work.
In the coming eternal Kingdom, there will be assignments and responsibilities. Even in heaven, leadership and divine order will exist. And God is already seeking those who will lead in His heavenly government. These will be people who were faithful in managing His spiritual resources here on earth.
Luke 16:10 (KJV)
“He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.”
So let us awaken! If you’ve been slacking in any area of your calling, arise and serve the Lord with renewed zeal and passion.
1 Corinthians 15:58 (KJV)
“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”
God bless you.
