In Hebrew, the word \u201cTevat\u201d<\/em> means a water vessel made specifically to save lives. It is like a big boat used to rescue people or animals from destruction. For example, in the Bible, God told Noah to build an ark so that he, his family, and the animals could be saved from the great flood.<\/p>\n

If you read Genesis chapters 6 to 8<\/strong>, you\u2019ll see the size and details of that ark, although the Bible doesn\u2019t describe exactly how it looked.<\/p>\n

Another example is the story of Moses. When he was born, his parents made a small ark (basket) for him and placed him inside to protect him from Pharaoh\u2019s order to kill all Hebrew baby boys.<\/p>\n

Exodus 2:1<\/strong> A man from the tribe of Levi married a woman from the same tribe.
2<\/strong> She became pregnant and gave birth to a baby boy. When she saw how beautiful he was, she hid him for three months.
3<\/strong> When she couldn\u2019t hide him any longer, she made a basket out of reeds, covered it with tar and pitch to make it waterproof, placed the baby inside, and set it among the reeds along the riverbank.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

One important thing to know is that both Noah\u2019s ark and Moses\u2019 basket were coated with tar and pitch<\/strong> inside and out. This made them waterproof so no water could leak in (Genesis 6:14, Exodus 2:3<\/strong>). In a way, these arks worked like modern-day submarines \u2014 able to stay safe in the water without sinking.<\/p>\n

What Does the Ark Represent?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The ark represents Jesus Christ<\/strong>. He is the one who saves us from God\u2019s judgment on this sinful world. And His blood<\/strong> is like the pitch \u2014 it covers and protects us.<\/p>\n

Anyone who does not believe in Jesus is still under God\u2019s judgment and cannot escape it because they have rejected the free gift of forgiveness that Jesus gave us by dying on the cross.<\/p>\n
