{"id":42496,"date":"2019-10-02T23:20:08","date_gmt":"2019-10-02T20:20:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wingulamashahidi.org\/?p=42496"},"modified":"2025-05-16T00:32:00","modified_gmt":"2025-05-15T21:32:00","slug":"who-is-jesus-according-to-the-bible","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wingulamashahidi.org\/en\/2019\/10\/02\/who-is-jesus-according-to-the-bible\/","title":{"rendered":"Who is Jesus, according to the bible?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is a question that not only confuses many today, but has perplexed generations for centuries even during Jesus&#8217; own time here on Earth.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, one day Jesus Himself asked His disciples the same question:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Matthew 16:13-15<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>NKJV<\/strong>: <em>When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, \u201cWho do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>NIV<\/strong>: <em>When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, \u201cWho do people say the Son of Man is?\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>They answered:<br \/>\n<strong>Verse 14<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Then Jesus asked a more personal question:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Verse 15<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>\u201cBut who do <strong>you<\/strong> say that I am?\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>If Jesus were to ask <strong>you<\/strong> that question today, how would you answer?<br \/>\nYou\u2019d likely hear a variety of responses:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;He is a prophet.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;A messenger of God.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;A good teacher.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;The Savior.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;God in the flesh.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These answers reflect people\u2019s perspectives but do they reflect <strong>God\u2019s truth<\/strong>?<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Knowing Jesus Based on Relationship<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Imagine you\u2019re standing with your boss in front of 1,000 people from different walks of life. You ask each one to describe your boss.<\/p>\n<p>You might hear:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cHe\u2019s my uncle.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cHe\u2019s my neighbor.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cHe\u2019s my chairman.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cHe\u2019s my brother-in-law.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cHe\u2019s my father.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cHe\u2019s a friend.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>None of them are necessarily wrong they\u2019re simply describing your boss based on their <strong>relationship<\/strong> with him. But if you asked them to describe him in his <strong>official role<\/strong>, you&#8217;d expect them to say \u201cHe is the boss.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Likewise, people can call Jesus many things: prophet, teacher, leader, Son of God. But what does <strong>God<\/strong> want us to know and declare about Jesus?<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Peter\u2019s Revelation<\/strong><\/h3>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Matthew 16:16-18<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>NKJV<\/strong>: <em>Simon Peter answered and said, \u201cYou are the Christ, the Son of the living God.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>NIV<\/strong>: <em>Simon Peter answered, \u201cYou are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Jesus responded:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Verse 17<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cBlessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Verse 18<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cAnd I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The revelation Peter had.<strong>Jesus is the Christ <\/strong>was not from human reasoning but from God Himself. And <strong>this truth<\/strong> is the rock upon which Jesus builds His church.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>What Does It Mean That Jesus Is \u201cThe Christ\u201d?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The word <strong>\u201cChrist\u201d<\/strong> (Greek: <em>Christos<\/em>) means <strong>\u201cThe Anointed One\u201d<\/strong> or <strong>\u201cThe Messiah.\u201d<\/strong> It refers to the One specially chosen and anointed by God to <strong>redeem mankind.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>So when we declare Jesus as \u201cthe Christ,\u201d we are acknowledging:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>He is the <strong>Savior<\/strong> of the world.<\/li>\n<li>He is <strong>God\u2019s Son<\/strong>, sent to rescue us from sin and death.<\/li>\n<li>He is the <strong>only way<\/strong> to the Father.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote><p><strong>John 14:6<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>NKJV<\/strong>: <em>\u201cI am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>NIV<\/strong>: <em>\u201cI am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>So, Who Is Jesus to You?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Now that you\u2019ve seen the truth from Scripture, the question returns to you:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who is Jesus to you?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>He is the <strong>Christ <\/strong>the <strong>Savior of the world<\/strong>. If you know Him this way, and receive Him personally, He will redeem your life and give you eternal hope.<\/p>\n<p>No matter how many titles or descriptions people may give Him, the most powerful, heaven-backed confession is:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>JESUS IS THE CHRIST, THE SON OF THE LIVING GOD.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And if you accept Him as such, <strong>Satan will hit a rock <\/strong>you will be firmly established, and your ticket to eternal life will be in your hands.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>In conclusion<\/h3>\n<p>Do not struggle trying to define Jesus based on worldly opinions.
