How to walk in God\u2019s favor with Him, with people, and with those in authority.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Bible teaches that \u201cfavor\u201d (or “grace”) is a spiritual blessing from God that causes others to respond positively to us. Favor can be divine (from God), relational (from people), or positional (from leaders). These verses reveal how favor operates in Scripture and how we can seek it through faith, obedience, humility, and God’s guidance.<\/p>\n

\n

1. Favor from God<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Genesis 4:6\u20137 (ESV)<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n

“The Lord said to Cain, ‘Why are you angry, and why has your face fallen? If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is contrary to you, but you must rule over it.'”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Theological Insight:<\/strong>
God’s favor is often tied to obedience and moral responsibility. Cain was warned that favor (“acceptance”) follows doing what is right. This teaches us that walking in righteousness positions us for God\u2019s approval and blessing. Sin, in contrast, disrupts our relationship with God.<\/p>\n

1 Samuel 1:17\u201318 (ESV)<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Then Eli answered, ‘Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant your petition that you have made to him.’ And she said, ‘Let your servant find favor in your eyes.’ Then the woman went her way and ate, and her face was no longer sad.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Theological Insight:<\/strong>
Hannah, in her distress, sought favor through prayer. Her faith moved God\u2019s heart. Divine favor brings inner peace and transforms sorrow into hope\u2014even before the answer comes. Her changed countenance is evidence of faith at work (Hebrews 11:1).<\/p>\n

2. Favor from People<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Exodus 11:3 (ESV)<\/strong><\/p>\n

“And the Lord gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians. Moreover, the man Moses was very great in the land of Egypt, in the sight of Pharaoh’s servants and in the sight of the people.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Theological Insight:<\/strong>
God can cause people\u2014even enemies\u2014to show kindness and generosity to His people (Proverbs 16:7). Favor is not always earned; sometimes it’s sovereignly granted by God to fulfill His purposes, as in Israel\u2019s exodus.<\/p>\n

Esther 2:15 (ESV)<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n

“When the turn came for Esther… she asked for nothing except what Hegai the king\u2019s eunuch… advised. Now Esther was winning favor in the eyes of all who saw her.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Theological Insight:<\/strong>
Esther\u2019s favor was rooted in humility, wisdom, and strategic obedience. Her restraint and trust in God\u2019s timing elevated her. This shows that favor with people often follows godly character and discernment (Proverbs 3:3\u20134).<\/p>\n

3. Favor from Leaders and Kings<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Genesis 39:21\u201322 (ESV)<\/strong><\/p>\n

“But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him steadfast love and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison. And the keeper of the prison put Joseph in charge…”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Theological Insight:<\/strong>
Even in unjust conditions, God’s presence leads to favor. Joseph\u2019s story shows that divine favor doesn’t always remove suffering but sustains purpose and promotion through it (Romans 8:28).<\/p>\n

“And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, ‘Let David remain in my service, for he has found favor in my sight.'”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Theological Insight:<\/strong>
David\u2019s favor before King Saul reveals how God\u2019s anointing attracts recognition. Even when others may not see your full calling, God causes people in authority to acknowledge your gifts.<\/p>\n

1 Samuel 27:5 (ESV)<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Then David said to Achish, ‘If I have found favor in your eyes, let a place be given me… that I may dwell there.’<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

“Theological Insight: <\/strong>Sometimes, God grants favor in unexpected places\u2014even among unbelievers. David, a future king, found safety through favor while hiding among the Philistines. God’s favor transcends cultural and national boundaries.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nehemiah 2:4\u20135 (ESV)<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n

“Then the king said to me, ‘What are you requesting?’ So I prayed to the God of heaven. And I said to the king, ‘If it pleases the king, and if your servant has found favor in your sight… let me go to Judah…'”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Theological Insight:<\/strong>
Nehemiah\u2019s quick prayer before speaking shows the partnership between divine favor and wise action. Favor with leaders often comes when we walk prayerfully and purposefully (James 1:5).<\/p>\n

Esther <\/span>5:<\/span>2 (<\/span>ESV)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

“<\/span>When <\/span>the <\/span>king <\/span>saw <\/span>Queen <\/span>Esther <\/span>standing <\/span>in <\/span>the <\/span>court, <\/span>she <\/span>won <\/span>favor <\/span>in <\/span>his <\/span>sight, <\/span>and <\/span>he <\/span>held <\/span>out <\/span>to <\/span>Esther <\/span>the <\/span>golden <\/span>scepter…”<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

4. Favor from a Husband<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Ruth 2:10\u201311 (ESV)<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Then she fell on her face… and said to him, ‘Why have I found favor in your eyes, that you should take notice of me, since I am a foreigner?’ But Boaz answered her, ‘All that you have done for your mother-in-law… has been fully told to me…'”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Theological Insight:<\/strong>
Ruth’s loyalty and faithfulness opened the door to favor\u2014even in a foreign land. Her story shows how godly character attracts favor from others, especially in covenant relationships.<\/p>\n

Esther 2:17 (ESV)<\/strong><\/p>\n

“The king loved Esther more than all the women, and she won grace and favor in his sight… so he set the royal crown on her head.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Theological Insight:<\/strong>
Esther\u2019s divine selection as queen symbolizes how God exalts the humble. Her favor with the king reflects divine appointment and purpose, much like the church as the bride of Christ (Ephesians 5:27).<\/p>\n

5. Favor from Both God and People<\/strong><\/h3>\n

1 Samuel 2:26 (ESV)<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n

“Now the boy Samuel continued to grow both in stature and in favor with the Lord and also with man.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Theological Insight:<\/strong>
True favor is balanced: we need both God\u2019s approval and healthy relationships with people. Samuel, like Jesus later in Luke 2:52, models spiritual and social maturity.<\/p>\n

Proverbs 3:3\u20135 (ESV)<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n

“Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you… So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Theological Insight:<\/strong>
Favor flows from a heart full of love, truth, and trust in God. This proverb offers a practical formula for walking in divine and human favor\u2014faithfulness + trust = favor and success.<\/p>\n
