In today\u2019s world, money seems like everything. It pays for food, rent, education, health care, and almost every basic necessity. So when Scripture tells us not to love money, it may sound unrealistic\u2014perhaps even irresponsible. But when we look deeper into <\/span>Hebrews 13:5\u20136<\/strong>, we find not only wisdom but also powerful comfort rooted in God\u2019s character and His promises.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Hebrews 13:5\u20136 (NIV)<\/strong>
\u201cKeep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, \u2018Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.\u2019 So we say with confidence, \u2018The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?\u2019\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This passage is not a call to ignore the realities of life, but an invitation to trust in God as our ultimate provider and sustainer.<\/p>\n

\n

1. The Command: Do Not Love Money<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The phrase \u201ckeep your lives free from the love of money<\/em>\u201d (Greek: aphilargyros<\/strong>) doesn’t mean money is evil in itself. Money is a tool, but the love<\/em> of money is what the Bible warns against:<\/p>\n

1 Timothy 6:10 (NIV)<\/strong>
\u201cFor the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

When our hearts become attached to wealth, we begin to drift from God\u2019s purposes. The danger is not in wealth itself but in idolizing it, placing it above God, and trusting it for security.<\/p>\n

\n

2. The Call to Contentment<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Hebrews 13:5 continues, \u201cBe content with what you have.\u201d<\/em> Why? Because contentment reflects trust<\/strong>\u2014that what God has given us in this moment is enough.<\/p>\n

\n

Philippians 4:11\u201313 (NIV)<\/strong>
\u201c\u2026I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances\u2026 I have learned the secret of being content\u2026 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Paul\u2019s secret to contentment wasn\u2019t a perfect bank account. It was knowing Christ was enough, in both plenty and in want. This aligns with the truth that God’s presence is of greater value than any possession.<\/p>\n

\n

3. The Anchor: God\u2019s Unshakable Promise<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The foundation of this teaching is God\u2019s unchanging promise:<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cNever will I leave you; never will I forsake you.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This is a direct quote from Deuteronomy 31:6<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cBe strong and courageous\u2026 for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This promise is repeated and fulfilled in Christ, who tells His disciples:<\/p>\n

\n

Matthew 28:20<\/strong> \u2013 \u201c\u2026And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

God\u2019s presence is our security. Not money. Not possessions. His constant presence ensures that even if material things fail, we are never abandoned.<\/p>\n

\n

4. God May Provide Differently, But He Will Provide<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Some people assume God\u2019s help means abundance. But that\u2019s not always how He works. He may provide just enough for today\u2014like manna in the wilderness (Exodus 16). Or, He may bless beyond our expectations. But either way, He always provides what we truly need<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\n

Matthew 6:11<\/strong> \u2013 \u201cGive us today our daily bread.\u201d<\/em>
Romans 8:32<\/strong> \u2013 \u201cHe who did not spare his own Son\u2026 how will he not also\u2026 graciously give us all things?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

So even when things look uncertain, we are called to trust His timing and method<\/strong>, not demand our own.<\/p>\n

\n

5. We Are Still Called to Work and Seek His Kingdom<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Trusting God doesn\u2019t mean sitting idly. God calls us to action in two main ways:<\/p>\n

A. Seek God’s Kingdom First<\/strong><\/h4>\n
\n

Matthew 6:33\u201334<\/strong>
\u201cBut seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This means prioritizing God\u2019s will\u2014serving Him, honoring Him, and living in alignment with His Word. When we do, we invite His provision into our lives.<\/p>\n

B. Work Diligently<\/strong><\/h4>\n
\n

Proverbs 10:4 (NIV)<\/strong>
\u201cLazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth.\u201d<\/em>
2 Thessalonians 3:10<\/strong> \u2013 \u201c\u2026The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

God blesses the work of our hands. Even small efforts, when done in faith, can bear fruit. But He doesn\u2019t want work to become an idol either.<\/p>\n

\n

6. Worship Over Worry<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Sometimes, trusting God means choosing worship over business. Closing your shop on Sunday, going to church instead of chasing profit, or pausing to pray even during busy days\u2014these are acts of trust.<\/p>\n

\n

Psalm 127:2<\/strong> \u2013 \u201cIn vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat\u2014 for he grants sleep to those he loves.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

God isn\u2019t just after our survival. He wants our hearts. And when we trust Him enough to prioritize Him, He takes care of the rest.<\/p>\n

\n

Conclusion: Let Jesus Be Enough<\/strong><\/h3>\n

As a child of God, your peace shouldn\u2019t come from your bank account, but from Christ. Whether you have a lot or a little, be content\u2014because Jesus is with you<\/strong>. He has promised:<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cI will never leave you. I will never forsake you.\u201d<\/em>
\u201cThe Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

So, live with confidence. Don\u2019t let the love of money take over your heart. Trust God. Work faithfully. Seek His Kingdom. And rest in the truth that you are never alone.<\/p>\n
