Many people ask the question: <\/span>\u201cWho is the Holy Spirit?\u201d<\/em> The simplest and most accurate answer is: <\/span>The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God<\/strong>. Just as every human being has a spirit, so does God. We were created in His image, and that includes having a soul, a spirit, and a body.<\/span><\/p>\n

1. Created in God’s Image<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Bible says:<\/p>\n

\u201cThen God said, \u2018Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness…\u2019\u201d<\/em>
\n(Genesis 1:26<\/strong>, NKJV)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This shows that humanity reflects God\u2019s nature\u2014just as we are triune beings (body, soul, and spirit\u20141 Thessalonians 5:23), God too is triune: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

2. God Revealed in the Flesh<\/strong><\/h3>\n

God chose to reveal Himself physically in the person of Jesus Christ<\/strong>. The body of God that appeared on earth was that of Jesus, who is not just the Son of God but God incarnate<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe who has seen Me has seen the Father…\u201d<\/em>

\u201cAnd without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh…\u201d<\/em>

This is a foundational Christian belief known as the Incarnation<\/strong>\u2014that God became man in the person of Jesus Christ (see also John 1:1, 14<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

3. The Spirit of Jesus Is the Holy Spirit<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Spirit who was in Jesus is the Holy Spirit<\/strong>, also called the Spirit of God<\/strong> or the Spirit of Christ<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In Acts 16:6\u20137<\/strong>, we read:<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia… but the Spirit of Jesus did not permit them.\u201d<\/em>

Here, \u201cHoly Spirit\u201d and \u201cSpirit of Jesus\u201d are used interchangeably. This affirms the theological truth of the unity of the Trinity<\/strong>\u2014that the Holy Spirit is not a separate being from Christ, but the same Spirit of God working through Him.<\/p>\n

4. God\u2019s Spirit Is Omnipresent<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Unlike human spirits, which are confined to our bodies, God\u2019s Spirit is omnipresent<\/strong>\u2014He is not bound by space or time. That\u2019s why God can be worshipped by believers around the world simultaneously and still minister to each one personally.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhere can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?\u201d<\/em>
\n(Psalm 139:7<\/strong>, NKJV)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This omnipresence is what allowed the Holy Spirit to be in Jesus, to descend upon Him at His baptism (Luke 3:22<\/strong>), and to be poured out on the Church at Pentecost (Acts 2:1\u20134<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

5. Why Is He Called the Holy Spirit?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

He is called the Holy Spirit<\/strong> because His very nature is holy. He is completely pure and separate from sin. Holiness is not just a description of Him\u2014it is His essence.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct.\u201d<\/em>
\n(1 Peter 1:15<\/strong>, NKJV)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The first evidence that someone has truly received the Holy Spirit is a transformed life that reflects holiness. This is known as sanctification<\/strong>\u2014the ongoing process of becoming more like Christ.<\/p>\n

6. How Do You Receive the Holy Spirit?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Holy Spirit is a free gift<\/strong>, promised to all who repent and believe in Jesus.<\/p>\n

\u201cThen Peter said to them, \u2018Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.\u2019\u201d<\/em>

\u201cFor the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.\u201d<\/em>

Receiving the Holy Spirit involves:<\/p>\n

  1. Repentance<\/strong> \u2013 Turning away from sin with sincerity and action.<\/li>\n
  2. Water Baptism<\/strong> \u2013 By full immersion, in the name of Jesus.<\/li>\n
  3. Faith<\/strong> \u2013 Believing in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    When you receive the Holy Spirit, He begins to work in you\u2014producing fruit (Galatians 5:22\u201323), distributing gifts (1 Corinthians 12:7\u201311), and empowering you to be Christ\u2019s witness (Acts 1:8).<\/p>\n

    7. The Necessity of the Holy Spirit<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    It is impossible to truly follow Christ or overcome sin without the Holy Spirit. In fact, Scripture clearly teaches:<\/p>\n

    \u201cNow if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.\u201d<\/em>
    \n(Romans 8:9<\/strong>, NKJV)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

    That\u2019s why every believer should earnestly seek to be filled with the Holy Spirit\u2014not just for power, but for relationship and transformation.<\/p>\n

    \nThe Holy Spirit is not just a force or feeling. He is God\u2014eternal, holy, personal, and active<\/strong> in the world today. He was present in creation, active in Jesus’ ministry, poured out on the early Church, and is still working in the hearts of believers. If you have not yet received the Holy Spirit, today is the day to turn to God with your whole heart. The promise is yours\u2014freely given by grace.<\/p>\n
