31 <\/span>Then <\/span>Jesus <\/span>said <\/span>to <\/span>those <\/span>Jews <\/span>who <\/span>believed <\/span>Him, \u201c<\/span>If <\/span>you <\/span>abide <\/span>in <\/span>My <\/span>word, <\/span>you <\/span>are <\/span>My <\/span>disciples <\/span>indeed.<\/span><\/em>
32 <\/span>And <\/span>you <\/span>shall <\/span>know <\/span>the <\/span>truth, <\/span>and <\/span>the <\/span>truth <\/span>shall <\/span>make <\/span>you <\/span>free.\u201d<\/span><\/em>

The <\/span>response <\/span>of <\/span>these <\/span>Jews\u2014\u201c<\/span>We <\/span>have <\/span>never <\/span>been <\/span>in <\/span>bondage <\/span>to <\/span>anyone\u201d\u2014<\/span>was <\/span>clearly <\/span>untrue <\/span>from <\/span>a <\/span>historical <\/span>standpoint. <\/span>The <\/span>Old <\/span>Testament <\/span>is <\/span>full <\/span>of <\/span>accounts <\/span>showing <\/span>that <\/span>the <\/span>Israelites <\/span>were, <\/span>in <\/span>fact, <\/span>enslaved <\/span>and <\/span>oppressed <\/span>multiple <\/span>times:<\/span><\/p>\n
