The Story (John 2:1\u201311)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Jesus, His mother Mary, and His disciples were guests at a wedding in Cana. During the celebration, the wine ran out \u2014 a serious cultural embarrassment at the time. Mary told Jesus about the situation, implying that He could help. Though He responded, \u201cWoman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come\u201d<\/em> (John 2:4), Mary instructed the servants, \u201cDo whatever he tells you\u201d<\/em> (John 2:5).<\/p>\n

Jesus then told the servants to fill six stone jars used for Jewish purification rituals with water. After they did, He instructed them to draw some and take it to the master of the feast. When the master tasted it, the water had become wine \u2014 and not just any wine, but the finest served that day. The master was amazed that such good wine was brought out so late in the feast.<\/p>\n

Verse 11 summarizes the event:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThis, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him.\u201d<\/em>
