One of the most important questions a believer can ask is: <\/span>Why did God choose me?<\/strong> Many people associate divine election with privilege, ministry, or spiritual gifts\u2014but Scripture points us to a deeper and more foundational purpose: <\/span>to know and live according to the will of God.<\/strong><\/p>\n

1. The Divine Purpose of Election<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Let us begin with Ephesians 1:11 (NKJV)<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cIn Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This verse reveals that God’s choice of us\u2014His elect\u2014is not random or arbitrary. It is intentional<\/strong> and purposeful<\/strong>, according to the \u201ccounsel of His will.\u201d<\/strong> In other words, election is not just about going to heaven\u2014it is about fulfilling God\u2019s purpose here and now<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

2. Paul\u2019s Calling: A Template for All Believers<\/strong><\/h3>\n

We see this clearly in the calling of the Apostle Paul. In Acts 22:14 (NKJV)<\/strong>, Paul recounts the words spoken to him by Ananias:<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cThen he said, \u2018The God of our fathers has chosen you that you should know His will<\/strong>, and see the Just One<\/strong>, and hear the voice of His mouth.<\/strong>\u2019\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The first purpose<\/strong> of Paul\u2019s calling was not preaching, miracles, or writing epistles\u2014it was that he might know the will of God<\/strong>. Before Paul could fulfill his mission, he had to personally encounter God<\/strong> and understand His desires<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This order matters: knowing precedes doing<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

3. The Centrality of God\u2019s Will in Salvation<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Jesus Himself underscores this truth in Matthew 7:21\u201323 (NKJV)<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

\u201cNot everyone who says to Me, \u2018Lord, Lord,\u2019 shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven<\/strong>. Many will say to Me in that day, \u2018Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?\u2019 And then I will declare to them, \u2018I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!\u2019\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This passage is sobering. It shows that religious activity<\/strong> without alignment with God\u2019s will<\/strong> is not only insufficient\u2014it is condemned<\/strong>. Jesus does not recognize works done apart from a relationship grounded in obedience.<\/p>\n

The will of God, then, is not optional\u2014it is central<\/strong> to true discipleship and eternal life.<\/p>\n

4. What Is the Will of God?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

So what is this will that we are called to know and obey?<\/p>\n

In 1 Thessalonians 4:3\u20135 (NKJV)<\/strong>, Paul makes it explicit:<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cFor this is the will of God, your sanctification<\/strong>: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

a. Sanctification (Holiness)<\/strong><\/h4>\n

God\u2019s will is that we be set apart<\/strong>\u2014not conformed to the sinful patterns of the world. Sanctification is both positional<\/strong>(we are made holy through Christ) and progressive<\/strong> (we grow in holiness through obedience, prayer, the Word, and fellowship).<\/p>\n

\u201cI beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God… And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God<\/strong>.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

b. Self-Control and Purity<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Part of sanctification includes honoring our bodies<\/strong>. Paul says we must control ourselves in holiness and honor\u2014not indulge in lust or impurity. That includes how we dress, behave, and even how we treat our appearance.<\/p>\n

The believer\u2019s body is a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19\u201320<\/strong>), and defiling it dishonors God. This includes all sexual sin, immodesty, vanity, and self-harmful practices.<\/p>\n

5. Living Out the Will of God<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Knowing God’s will is not enough\u2014we must live it<\/strong>. James 1:22 (NKJV) reminds us:<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cBut be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

True knowledge of God\u2019s will always leads to action. It transforms our character<\/strong>, conduct<\/strong>, and priorities<\/strong>. The Holy Spirit empowers us to walk in obedience, but we must make the daily choice to follow.<\/p>\n

God chose you so that you would:<\/p>\n
