1. \u201cHori\u201d as a Manger \u2013 A Symbol of Humility and Sacrifice<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The most familiar meaning of the word hori<\/em> in the Bible is a manger<\/em> \u2014 a feeding trough for animals such as cows or sheep. This is the context in which we find it in the Nativity story.<\/p>\n

Luke 2:7 (ESV):<\/strong>
\n\u201cAnd she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was not born in a palace or comfortable home, but in a stable, and laid in a feeding trough. This setting was not a mistake. It was a powerful symbol of His mission:<\/p>\n

Humility<\/strong>: Philippians 2:6\u20137 (ESV) says, \u201cThough he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Accessibility<\/strong>: Christ came not just for the rich or powerful but for all people \u2014 even the lowest in society.<\/p>\n

2. \u201cHori\u201d as a Bay \u2013 A Geographic Feature in Biblical Lands<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The second meaning of hori<\/em> refers to a bay or inlet<\/strong> \u2014 a curve in a sea or lake where water reaches inland. This geographical usage appears mainly in the Old Testament when describing boundaries of the Promised Land.<\/p>\n

\n\u201cNow when it was day, they did not recognize the land, but they noticed a bay with a beach, on which they planned if possible to run the ship ashore.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This meaning helps us understand the topography of ancient Israel and how bays served as important places for trade, travel, and settlement.<\/p>\n
