Jesus responds:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cWoman, why do you involve me?\u201d Jesus replied. \u201cMy hour has not yet come.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>(John 2:4, NIV)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This may seem like a surprising or even harsh response. But to understand what Jesus meant, we need to look at the deeper theological significance of the phrase <em>\u201cMy hour.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>1. Mary&#8217;s Expectation and Jesus\u2019 Response<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Mary wasn\u2019t just pointing out a practical problem\u2014she was hoping Jesus would perform a miracle. Her request, though subtle, was rooted in her knowledge of who He truly was. She was asking for a supernatural solution.<\/p>\n<p>Jesus\u2019 reply wasn\u2019t disrespectful. The term <em>\u201cWoman\u201d<\/em> was actually a respectful form of address in Jewish culture at the time. What He was doing was <strong>redirecting her expectation from a personal or social solution to God\u2019s divine timeline.<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cMy hour has not yet come\u201d<\/strong> indicates that Jesus operated <strong>on God\u2019s schedule<\/strong>, not human prompting\u2014even from His own mother.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>2. What Is \u201cThe Hour\u201d? A Theological Insight<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>In the Gospel of John, the phrase <strong>\u201cMy hour\u201d<\/strong> consistently refers to the <strong>time of Jesus\u2019 glorification<\/strong>, which includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>His <strong>suffering<\/strong> (passion),<\/li>\n<li>His <strong>death<\/strong> on the cross,<\/li>\n<li>His <strong>resurrection<\/strong>, and<\/li>\n<li>His <strong>ascension<\/strong> into glory.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This &#8220;hour&#8221; represents the <strong>culmination of His earthly mission<\/strong>\u2014the moment when God\u2019s redemptive plan through Christ would be fulfilled.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>John 7:30<\/strong> \u2013 <em>\u201cAt this they tried to seize him, but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come.\u201d<\/em><br \/>\n<em>(NIV)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><strong>John 12:23<\/strong> \u2013 <em>\u201cJesus replied, \u2018The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.\u2019\u201d<\/em><br \/>\n<em>(NIV)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><strong>John 13:1<\/strong> \u2013 <em>\u201cJesus knew that the hour had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father.\u201d<\/em><br \/>\n<em>(NIV)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Thus, in John 2, Jesus is signaling that <strong>the time to fully reveal His divine mission had not yet arrived<\/strong>. Performing a public miracle would begin to expose His identity and accelerate the events that would lead to the cross.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>3. When \u201cThe Hour\u201d Arrived<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>After Jesus performed several miracles and His popularity grew, the long-awaited \u201chour\u201d finally came. This included both the <strong>glory of public recognition<\/strong> and the <strong>agony of the crucifixion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>When Greeks came to seek Jesus\u2014a sign of His influence spreading beyond Israel\u2014He said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cThe hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>(John 12:23, NIV)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>But He immediately followed with this:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cNow my soul is troubled, and what shall I say? \u2018Father, save me from this hour\u2019? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>(John 12:27, NIV)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Jesus understood that <strong>true glorification would come through suffering<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>4. A Lesson for Us: God\u2019s Timing and Our Seasons<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Just as Jesus had an appointed time, <strong>we too have divine timings<\/strong> in our lives. There are moments for growth, for pain, for joy, and for waiting. God\u2019s plans unfold not on our schedule, but according to <strong>His sovereign will<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Jesus Himself likened life\u2019s seasons to childbirth:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cA woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>(John 16:21, NIV)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This parallels our experiences: sometimes we endure sorrow, but joy follows. Our trials are not without purpose\u2014they often lead to <strong>greater revelation and transformation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The author of Ecclesiastes beautifully reflects this truth:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cThere is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens\u2026 a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>(Ecclesiastes 3:1, 4, NIV)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Conclusion: Trusting God\u2019s Timing<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>When Jesus said <em>\u201cMy hour has not yet come,\u201d<\/em> He was demonstrating unwavering commitment to the Father\u2019s will. It was a reminder that His purpose would unfold at the right time\u2014not by pressure, but by Providence.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We, too, are called to recognize and trust the seasons of our lives.<\/strong> Whether in joy or hardship, God is at work, shaping us for His glory.<\/p>\n<p>Let us be patient in the waiting, faithful in the doing, and hopeful in the enduring\u2014knowing that in God&#8217;s time, all things are made beautiful (Ecclesiastes 3:11).<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Shalom.
