Understanding \u201cHis Mercy Endures Forever\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When we hear the word <em>mercy<\/em>, we often think of simple acts of kindness someone helping another person in need, or forgiving a small offense. But when the Bible speaks of <strong>God\u2019s mercy<\/strong>, it points to something far greater, deeper, and eternal.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>The Hebrew Word &#8220;Hesed&#8221;<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>In the Old Testament, the word used for God&#8217;s mercy is <strong>\u201cHesed\u201d<\/strong> (\u05d7\u05b6\u05e1\u05b6\u05d3). This Hebrew word has no exact English equivalent. It includes concepts like steadfast love, covenant loyalty, loving-kindness, and mercy. It refers to God\u2019s faithful, unfailing love toward His people, especially as expressed in His covenants and redemptive acts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Theologian R.C. Sproul<\/strong> explains that <em>hesed<\/em> involves a love that is loyal, committed, and active. It is not merely emotion it\u2019s love in action, grounded in God\u2019s unchanging character.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Mercy Without Conditions<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>God\u2019s mercy is <strong>unconditional<\/strong>. It\u2019s not given because we deserve it or have done anything to earn it. In<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Titus 3:5 (NKJV)<\/strong>, Paul writes:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us\u2026\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>God shows mercy <strong>because it is His nature<\/strong>. He doesn&#8217;t wait for us to be good first. Rather, He is good and merciful even when we are undeserving.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Psalm 136 \u2013 A Litany of Mercy<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Psalm 136<\/strong> is a powerful expression of God&#8217;s enduring mercy. Every verse ends with the phrase:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cFor His mercy endures forever.\u201d<\/strong> <em>(NKJV)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This refrain reminds us that in every act of God from creation to deliverance His mercy is the driving force.<\/p>\n<p>Here are selected verses:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Psalm 136:1\u20133 (NKJV)<\/strong>:<br \/>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cOh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!<br \/>\nFor His mercy endures forever.<br \/>\nOh, give thanks to the God of gods!<br \/>\nFor His mercy endures forever.<br \/>\nOh, give thanks to the Lord of lords!<br \/>\nFor His mercy endures forever.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">Psalm<\/span> 136:10\u201316 (NKJV)<\/strong> recounts God&#8217;s mercy in delivering Israel from Egypt, parting the Red Sea, and leading them through the wilderness. All these acts are declared as demonstrations of His everlasting mercy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>God\u2019s Mercy Revealed to Moses<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>When Moses asked to see God\u2019s glory, the Lord passed by him and proclaimed:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cThe Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, long suffering, and abounding in goodness and truth\u2026\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>(Exodus 34:6, NKJV)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Here, <em>merciful<\/em> is the first characteristic God uses to describe Himself. His very identity is wrapped in mercy and compassion.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>The Cross: The Ultimate Act of Mercy<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>God\u2019s mercy reaches its highest expression in the <strong>sacrifice of Jesus Christ<\/strong>. As John 3:16 (NKJV) says:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cFor God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son,<br \/>\nthat whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This was not an act of obligation\u2014it was a gift of pure mercy. <strong>Romans 5:8 (NKJV)<\/strong> tells us:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cBut God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Ask yourself: could you give up your beloved child to save someone who ignores or even hates you? That\u2019s what God did for us.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Responding to God&#8217;s Mercy<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Knowing all this, how should we respond?<\/p>\n<p>With <strong>gratitude<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u00a0<em>\u201cOh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.\u201d<\/em> (Psalm 107:1, NKJV)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>With praise and worship: David often responded to God\u2019s mercy with music, dancing, and public praise.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>With obedience and giving: Our offerings and lives should reflect how deeply we appreciate God&#8217;s mercy<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As believers, we are called to worship Him not only with our lips but with our whole lives.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>God\u2019s mercy\u2014<strong>His \u201chesed\u201d<\/strong>\u2014is not fleeting. It is eternal, unwavering, and deeply personal. It is the reason we are not consumed (Lamentations 3:22), and it is the foundation of our salvation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>May the name of Jesus Christ be forever praised. His mercy truly endures forever.
