When we hear the word mercy<\/em>, we often think of simple acts of kindness someone helping another person in need, or forgiving a small offense. But when the Bible speaks of God\u2019s mercy<\/strong>, it points to something far greater, deeper, and eternal.<\/p>\n

The Hebrew Word “Hesed”<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In the Old Testament, the word used for God’s mercy is \u201cHesed\u201d<\/strong> (\u05d7\u05b6\u05e1\u05b6\u05d3). This Hebrew word has no exact English equivalent. It includes concepts like steadfast love, covenant loyalty, loving-kindness, and mercy. It refers to God\u2019s faithful, unfailing love toward His people, especially as expressed in His covenants and redemptive acts.<\/p>\n

Theologian R.C. Sproul<\/strong> explains that hesed<\/em> involves a love that is loyal, committed, and active. It is not merely emotion it\u2019s love in action, grounded in God\u2019s unchanging character.<\/p>\n

Mercy Without Conditions<\/strong><\/h3>\n

God\u2019s mercy is unconditional<\/strong>. It\u2019s not given because we deserve it or have done anything to earn it. In<\/p>\n

Titus 3:5 (NKJV)<\/strong>, Paul writes:<\/p>\n

\u201cNot by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us\u2026\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

God shows mercy because it is His nature<\/strong>. He doesn’t wait for us to be good first. Rather, He is good and merciful even when we are undeserving.<\/p>\n

Psalm 136 \u2013 A Litany of Mercy<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Psalm 136<\/strong> is a powerful expression of God’s enduring mercy. Every verse ends with the phrase:<\/p>\n

\u201cFor His mercy endures forever.\u201d<\/strong> (NKJV)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This refrain reminds us that in every act of God from creation to deliverance His mercy is the driving force.<\/p>\n
