Jesus did many miraculous things during His earthly ministry. But among them, some moments reveal not just His power\u2014but His heart<\/em>. One such moment is recorded in Mark 7:32\u201334<\/strong>, where Jesus healed a deaf and mute man in a deeply personal and emotional way. This encounter teaches us that true, godly emotions\u2014especially compassion\u2014are not manufactured by human effort. They are drawn from deep communion with God<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Healing in Mark 7: A Different Approach<\/h3>\n

Mark 7:32\u201334<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Then they brought to Him one who was deaf and had an impediment in his speech, and they begged Him to put His hand on him. And He took him aside from the multitude, and put His fingers in his ears, and He spat and touched his tongue. Then, looking up to heaven, He sighed, and said to him, ‘Ephphatha,’ that is, ‘Be opened.'”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Most of Jesus’ healings were immediate and declarative\u2014He often just spoke a word. But in this case, Jesus took the man aside, used physical gestures, sighed deeply<\/em>, and then healed him. Why such a dramatic and intimate method?<\/p>\n

The answer lies in Jesus\u2019 divine empathy<\/strong>. That sigh<\/em> was not a breath of frustration\u2014it was a sign of deep compassion and spiritual burden. This wasn\u2019t just a healing\u2014it was a moment of identification<\/em> with human suffering.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Rooted<\/strong> in<\/strong> Heaven<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

When Jesus \u201clooked up to heaven,\u201d He wasn\u2019t merely gazing upward. He was connecting with the Father<\/em>, drawing from the true source of love and mercy. This is a consistent pattern in His ministry:<\/p>\n

“Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do…”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Jesus’ compassion wasn\u2019t automatic; it came from an intentional alignment with the heart of God<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Comparing with John 9: Healing with Instruction<\/h3>\n

John 9:6\u20137<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen He had said these things, He spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva; and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay. And He said to him, \u2018Go, wash in the pool of Siloam\u2019 (which is translated, Sent). So he went and washed, and came back seeing.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Even here, Jesus used physical elements\u2014but He didn\u2019t sigh. This tells us that Jesus tailored each miracle to the person\u2019s need<\/strong>, emotionally and spiritually. The man in Mark 7 needed more than healing<\/em>\u2014he needed God\u2019s deep empathy<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The Christian Call: Sharing in God\u2019s Compassion<\/h3>\n

Luke 6:36<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful.”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

As followers of Christ, we\u2019re not just called to act; we\u2019re called to feel<\/em>. We cannot fake godly compassion. It comes from time spent with God\u2014through prayer, reading Scripture, fasting, and worship. Jesus modeled this for us.<\/p>\n

When we turn our attention and hearts to heaven\u2014just as Jesus did\u2014we invite God\u2019s emotions into our own.<\/p>\n

More Examples of Jesus’ Compassion:<\/h3>\n

Luke 7:13<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, \u2018Do not weep.\u2019\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Matthew 9:36<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cBut when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Mark 6:34<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cAnd Jesus, when He came out, saw a great multitude and was moved with compassion for them, because they were like sheep not having a shepherd.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

These verses show a recurring truth: Jesus did not act without feeling<\/strong>. He saw people as they truly were, and His heart was moved.<\/p>\n

Looking to Heaven<\/h3>\n

Looking up to heaven doesn\u2019t mean physically looking at the sky\u2014it means setting your mind on God:<\/p>\n

Colossians 3:1\u20132<\/strong><\/p>\n

“If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is… Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

When we seek God intentionally, we become more like Him. We receive the fruit of the Spirit<\/em>:<\/p>\n

Galatians 5:22\u201323<\/strong><\/p>\n

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control…”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

These are the emotions that heal, restore, and unite.<\/p>\n

How to Receive True Godly Emotions<\/h3>\n

We live in a world full of noise, pain, and disconnection. But if we want to love like Jesus, we must feel<\/em> like Jesus. That means:<\/p>\n
