But more than being just containers, baskets in Scripture also symbolize how God provides, and how easily we can forget His faithfulness.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"503\" data-end=\"506\" \/>\n<h3 data-start=\"508\" data-end=\"536\"><strong data-start=\"512\" data-end=\"536\">Baskets in the Bible<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"538\" data-end=\"643\">There are several key passages where baskets are mentioned, especially in the context of Jesus\u2019 miracles:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"645\" data-end=\"912\">\n<li data-start=\"645\" data-end=\"783\">\n<p data-start=\"647\" data-end=\"672\"><strong data-start=\"647\" data-end=\"670\">Matthew 15:37 (ESV)<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"675\" data-end=\"783\">\n<p data-start=\"677\" data-end=\"783\">\u201cAnd they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up seven baskets full of the broken pieces left over.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"785\" data-end=\"912\">\n<p data-start=\"787\" data-end=\"807\"><strong data-start=\"787\" data-end=\"805\">Mark 8:8 (ESV)<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"810\" data-end=\"912\">\n<p data-start=\"812\" data-end=\"912\">\u201cAnd they ate and were satisfied. And they took up the broken pieces left over, seven baskets full.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"914\" data-end=\"1052\">After feeding thousands of people, Jesus\u2019 disciples collected the leftover bread in <strong data-start=\"998\" data-end=\"1015\">seven baskets<\/strong>\u2014a clear sign of abundance, not lack.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1054\" data-end=\"1116\">We also see baskets used in economic terms in Jesus\u2019 parables:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1118\" data-end=\"1403\">\n<li data-start=\"1118\" data-end=\"1403\">\n<p data-start=\"1120\" data-end=\"1143\"><strong data-start=\"1120\" data-end=\"1141\">Luke 16:6\u20137 (ESV)<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"1146\" data-end=\"1403\">\n<p data-start=\"1148\" data-end=\"1403\">\u201cHe said, \u2018A hundred measures of oil.\u2019 He said to him, \u2018Take your bill, and sit down quickly and write fifty.\u2019 Then he said to another, \u2018And how much do you owe?\u2019 He said, \u2018A hundred measures of wheat.\u2019 He said to him, \u2018Take your bill, and write eighty.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1405\" data-end=\"1481\">Here, baskets are used to measure value and debt in a financial transaction.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"1483\" data-end=\"1486\" \/>\n<h3 data-start=\"1488\" data-end=\"1544\"><strong data-start=\"1492\" data-end=\"1544\">The Forgotten Bread: A Warning from Mark 8:14\u201321<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1546\" data-end=\"1806\">Later, in <strong data-start=\"1556\" data-end=\"1572\">Mark 8:14\u201321<\/strong>, the disciples forgot to bring bread on their journey and began to argue about it. This is striking because they had just witnessed Jesus miraculously feed thousands of people. Despite that, they were worried about not having enough.<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1808\" data-end=\"2089\">\n<li data-start=\"1808\" data-end=\"2089\">\n<p data-start=\"1810\" data-end=\"1834\"><strong data-start=\"1810\" data-end=\"1832\">Mark 8:17\u201318 (ESV)<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"1837\" data-end=\"2089\">\n<p data-start=\"1839\" data-end=\"2089\">\u201cAnd Jesus, aware of this, said to them, \u2018Why are you discussing the fact that you have no bread? Do you not yet perceive or understand? Are your hearts hardened? Having eyes do you not see, and having ears do you not hear? And do you not remember?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2091\" data-end=\"2278\">Jesus reminded them: when He fed five thousand, <strong data-start=\"2139\" data-end=\"2157\">twelve baskets<\/strong> were left over. When He fed four thousand, <strong data-start=\"2201\" data-end=\"2218\">seven baskets<\/strong> were left. They had seen it with their own eyes\u2014yet forgot.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"2280\" data-end=\"2283\" \/>\n<h3 data-start=\"2285\" data-end=\"2333\"><strong data-start=\"2289\" data-end=\"2333\">The Deeper Message: Where Is Your Focus?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2335\" data-end=\"2460\">The disciples\u2019 fear came from placing their security in <strong data-start=\"2391\" data-end=\"2421\">what was inside the basket<\/strong>, instead of <strong data-start=\"2434\" data-end=\"2459\">who filled the basket<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2462\" data-end=\"2544\">This is the same issue many believers face today. We often worry about the future:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2546\" data-end=\"2650\">\n<li data-start=\"2546\" data-end=\"2577\">\n<p data-start=\"2548\" data-end=\"2577\">\u201cWhat will I eat next month?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2578\" data-end=\"2616\">\n<p data-start=\"2580\" data-end=\"2616\">\u201cHow will I pay my bills next year?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2617\" data-end=\"2650\">\n<p data-start=\"2619\" data-end=\"2650\">\u201cWhat will happen to my plans?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2652\" data-end=\"2760\">When we begin to focus on our own lack, we lose sight of God\u2019s past faithfulness and His promise to provide.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2762\" data-end=\"2796\">Jesus calls us to shift our focus:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2798\" data-end=\"3046\">\n<li data-start=\"2798\" data-end=\"3046\">\n<p data-start=\"2800\" data-end=\"2827\"><strong data-start=\"2800\" data-end=\"2825\">Matthew 6:31\u201333 (ESV)<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"2830\" data-end=\"3046\">\n<p data-start=\"2832\" data-end=\"3046\">\u201cTherefore do not be anxious, saying, \u2018What shall we eat?\u2019 or \u2018What shall we drink?\u2019 or \u2018What shall we wear?\u2019 &#8230; But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"3048\" data-end=\"3140\">The promise is clear: If we make God\u2019s kingdom our priority, He will take care of our needs.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"3142\" data-end=\"3145\" \/>\n<h3 data-start=\"3147\" data-end=\"3183\"><strong data-start=\"3151\" data-end=\"3183\">A Word for Today\u2019s Believers<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"3185\" data-end=\"3229\">The baskets in these stories are a reminder:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"3231\" data-end=\"3315\">\n<li data-start=\"3231\" data-end=\"3259\">\n<p data-start=\"3233\" data-end=\"3259\">God has provided before.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3260\" data-end=\"3284\">\n<p data-start=\"3262\" data-end=\"3284\">He is providing now.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"3285\" data-end=\"3315\">\n<p data-start=\"3287\" data-end=\"3315\">He will continue to provide.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"3317\" data-end=\"3455\">Don\u2019t panic over what you don\u2019t have. Don\u2019t put your hope in what\u2019s inside the basket.
