In the Old Testament, we encounter a story about a widow in the town of Zarephath. This small town was located outside of Israel, in the region of Sidon (modern-day Lebanon). Despite her obscurity and poverty, this woman became a key figure in one of the most dramatic stories of divine provision.<\/p>\n
During the days of the prophet Elijah, Israel was experiencing a severe drought. Elijah had declared that there would be no rain for three and a half years\u2014by the word of the Lord\u2014because of Israel\u2019s rebellion and idolatry (cf. 1 Kings 17:1<\/strong>, James 5:17<\/strong>). As the famine spread, God first provided for Elijah through ravens at a brook (1 Kings 17:4\u20136). But when the brook dried up, God sent him to Zarephath:<\/p>\n 1 Kings 17:8\u20139 (ESV):<\/strong> God could have sent Elijah to a wealthy household. Instead, He sent him to a poor, desperate widow who had nothing but a handful of flour and a little oil. Why?<\/p>\n Because God often chooses the weak, the lowly, and the overlooked to display His glory (1 Corinthians 1:27\u201329<\/strong>). This woman would be tested\u2014and her faith would become an example for generations.<\/p>\n When Elijah arrived, he found the woman gathering sticks. He asked her for water\u2014and then for bread. She responded with brutal honesty:<\/p>\n 1 Kings 17:12 (ESV):<\/strong> This was her last meal. Yet Elijah asked her to give the first portion to him.<\/p>\n 1 Kings 17:13\u201314 (ESV):<\/strong> This was not manipulation\u2014it was a test of faith. Many Christians today are overwhelmed by their own needs\u2014whether it\u2019s finances, food, family, or the future. They bring their problems to God, which is good\u2014but they often forget to seek God\u2019s purpose<\/strong>.<\/p>\n God is not just a provider; He\u2019s a King<\/strong>. God blesses faith that gives even when it hurts<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Jesus pointed out a similar situation in the New Testament:<\/p>\n Mark 12:43\u201344 (ESV):<\/strong> God is deeply moved when we give or serve Him sacrificially\u2014not just when it\u2019s convenient, but when it\u2019s costly.<\/p>\n Maybe you\u2019re going through a hard season right now\u2014financially, emotionally, or spiritually. Maybe your \u201cjar of flour\u201d is almost empty. Maybe you’re down to your last bit of strength.<\/p>\n Here\u2019s the truth: God sees. God knows. And God honors faith.<\/strong><\/p>\n Don\u2019t wait for everything to be perfect before you serve Him or give to Him. Trust Him now. Give Him your \u201clittle.\u201d It may be the key to unlocking miraculous provision<\/strong> and divine favor over your life.<\/p>\n Galatians 6:9 (ESV):<\/strong> If you want to succeed in life\u2014and in your walk with God\u2014learn from the widow of Zarephath<\/strong>:<\/p>\n Put God first.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Trust His Word.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Obey even when it\u2019s difficult.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Believe that He can multiply what little you have.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n God doesn\u2019t bless fear.
