Have you ever asked yourself why Jesus was called the Son of God<\/strong><\/em>?<\/strong> It’s not merely because He was born of God or confessed Him publicly. It’s deeper than that. To truly be recognized as a son of God, one must not only be born of Him\u2014through faith and baptism\u2014but must also carry within them the ministry of reconciliation.<\/p>\n

The Bible tells us:<\/p>\n

Matthew 5:9 (ESV)<\/strong>
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.”<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Notice, it doesn\u2019t say blessed are the holy<\/em>, or blessed are the kings<\/em>, or even blessed are the priests<\/em>. It says sons of God<\/em>. Why?<\/p>\n

Because reconciliation lies at the very heart of God\u2019s identity and mission. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came with a divine mission: to reconcile a broken, sinful world back to the Father. That mission defines His sonship\u2014and it must define ours as well.<\/p>\n

Paul explains it clearly:<\/p>\n

2 Corinthians 5:18\u201319 (ESV)<\/strong>
“All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.”<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Did you catch that? God was in Christ, reconciling the world to Himself\u2014and now He has entrusted that same ministry to us. Jesus laid down His glory, stepped out of heaven, and came into a hostile world, knowing He would be rejected by the very people He came to save. He bore the cost of reconciliation: humiliation, suffering, and death on the cross.<\/p>\n

God affirmed His pleasure in Christ because of this obedient mission. At His baptism, He declared:<\/p>\n

“This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Why was the Father so pleased? Because Jesus had fully embraced the cost of reconciliation. He didn\u2019t merely talk about peace\u2014He made peace through His blood (Colossians 1:20). That\u2019s what made Him the true Son of God.<\/p>\n

And now, we are called to follow in His steps.<\/p>\n

To be called sons of God<\/em> <\/strong>is not just a title\u2014it\u2019s a calling. It means taking on the mission of peacemaking, of standing in the gap between a holy God and a sinful world, and pleading with people to be reconciled to their Creator through Christ.<\/p>\n

But let\u2019s be honest: reconciling people is not easy. It\u2019s not just about shaking hands and smiling. True peacemaking requires sacrifice. If you’ve ever tried to mediate between two enemies or lead someone to Christ, you know it often involves being misunderstood, rejected, even insulted.<\/p>\n

Jesus was rejected by His own. He was despised, mocked, and ultimately crucified. Yet He didn\u2019t give up. His love endured all things until the reconciliation was complete.<\/p>\n

Likewise, we are called to persist. When you share the Gospel and people don\u2019t respond\u2014or worse, they mock or oppose you\u2014don\u2019t be discouraged. There is no reconciliation without cost. You\u2019re fighting a battle that isn’t yours, for souls that belong to God. One day they may reject you, the next they may insult you\u2014but the day after that, they might be saved.<\/p>\n

When even one soul is reconciled to God through your faithfulness, heaven rejoices\u2014and your reward increases. God begins to recognize you not just as a believer, but as a beloved child, actively partnering in His divine mission.<\/p>\n

Jesus said:<\/p>\n

John 5:20\u201321 (ESV)<\/strong>
“For the Father loves the Son and shows him all that he himself is doing. And greater works than these will he show him, so that you may marvel. For as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whom he will.”<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This is the power and privilege of true sonship: to participate in the divine work of giving life. The more we embrace the mission of Christ, the more we begin to reflect His heart and authority.<\/p>\n

So let us begin today\u2014by valuing others, sharing the Gospel faithfully, and pressing through resistance with love and endurance. When you see your neighbor walking in darkness, don\u2019t walk away. Fight for them in prayer, in love, and with truth, until they turn to Christ. Yes, it may be hard. Yes, it may be slow. But there is no reconciliation without cost.<\/p>\n

And when you understand that, you will walk with patience and peace through every trial. Because you\u2019ll know that you’re not just a believer\u2014you are a peacemaker. And as Jesus said, peacemakers are the ones who will be called sons of God<\/em>.<\/p>\n
