But anyone who has spent time with real fishermen knows the truth: fishing is not just about casting and collecting <\/strong>it\u2019s also about preparing, maintaining, and repairing the tools of the trade.<\/strong><\/p>\n After each fishing trip regardless of whether they caught anything or not <\/strong>fishermen are required to clean their nets and, if necessary, repair them. Why?<\/p>\n Because nets don\u2019t just catch fish. They gather seaweed, mud, trash, and debris. If neglected, these contaminants begin to rot, attracting vermin and weakening the material. Dead fish stuck in the net begin to decompose and further damage the fibers. Left unchecked, holes develop, making the net useless.<\/p>\n Dirty nets are visible in the water, and fish instinctively avoid them. The best nets are nearly invisible just as effective ministry often flows from quiet, unseen disciplines<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Let us examine what the Gospels tell us.<\/p>\n \u201cOne day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, the people were crowding around Him and listening to the word of God. He saw at the water\u2019s edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets. Notice the detail: the fishermen were washing their nets<\/strong>, even after a failed night of fishing. Why? A life of integrity, humility, and sanctification makes the Gospel message attractive and credible.<\/p>\n Remember what Simon Peter said to Jesus in Luke 5:5:<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019ve worked hard all night and haven\u2019t caught anything.
