Welcome to today\u2019s study of the Word of God.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"407\" data-end=\"493\">Have you ever truly considered the danger of corrupt speech and ungodly conversations?<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"495\" data-end=\"536\">The Bible gives us a sobering warning in:<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"538\" data-end=\"630\">\n<p data-start=\"540\" data-end=\"630\"><strong data-start=\"540\" data-end=\"569\">1 Corinthians 15:33 (ESV)<\/strong><br data-start=\"569\" data-end=\"572\" \/><em data-start=\"574\" data-end=\"630\">\u201cDo not be deceived: \u2018Bad company ruins good morals.\u2019\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"632\" data-end=\"908\">Notice carefully: Scripture does not say that bad company simply \u201cinfluences\u201d bad behavior. Rather, it says that it <em data-start=\"748\" data-end=\"755\">ruins<\/em>\u2014<em data-start=\"756\" data-end=\"766\">destroys<\/em>\u2014good morals. In other words, even someone with a godly, admirable character can slowly lose that character through exposure to ungodly talk.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"910\" data-end=\"1157\">Even if you are not the one speaking\u2014merely listening to or being present in such environments\u2014your heart begins to be influenced. The Word of God doesn&#8217;t exaggerate. It speaks with divine authority. That\u2019s why we must take this warning seriously.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"1159\" data-end=\"1162\" \/>\n<h3 data-start=\"1164\" data-end=\"1197\">What Are \u201cBad Conversations\u201d?<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1199\" data-end=\"1212\">They include:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1214\" data-end=\"1375\">\n<li data-start=\"1214\" data-end=\"1237\">\n<p data-start=\"1216\" data-end=\"1237\"><strong data-start=\"1216\" data-end=\"1237\">Sexual immorality<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1238\" data-end=\"1262\">\n<p data-start=\"1240\" data-end=\"1262\"><strong data-start=\"1240\" data-end=\"1262\">Gossip and slander<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1263\" data-end=\"1281\">\n<p data-start=\"1265\" data-end=\"1281\"><strong data-start=\"1265\" data-end=\"1281\">Vulgar jokes<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1282\" data-end=\"1321\">\n<p data-start=\"1284\" data-end=\"1321\"><strong data-start=\"1284\" data-end=\"1321\">Materialistic and worldly chatter<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1322\" data-end=\"1375\">\n<p data-start=\"1324\" data-end=\"1375\"><strong data-start=\"1324\" data-end=\"1375\">Talk that glorifies sin or diminishes godliness<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1377\" data-end=\"1619\">These conversations don\u2019t always take place in obviously sinful environments. They often hide in plain sight\u2014in social gatherings, online platforms, entertainment, and even literature. Let\u2019s explore a few common sources of such conversations.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"1621\" data-end=\"1624\" \/>\n<h3 data-start=\"1626\" data-end=\"1670\">1. <strong data-start=\"1633\" data-end=\"1670\">Idle Social Gatherings (\u201cVijiwe\u201d)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1672\" data-end=\"1992\">These are casual hangouts where people pass time with games, talk, or debate\u2014such as those found in neighborhoods where individuals gather to play board games, bet on sports, or simply share stories. While these gatherings may seem innocent, they often become breeding grounds for gossip, crude talk, or vain boasting.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"1994\" data-end=\"2115\">\n<p data-start=\"1996\" data-end=\"2115\"><strong data-start=\"1996\" data-end=\"2020\">Proverbs 13:20 (ESV)<\/strong><br data-start=\"2020\" data-end=\"2023\" \/><em data-start=\"2025\" data-end=\"2115\">\u201cWhoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"2117\" data-end=\"2296\">As believers, we are called to be <em data-start=\"2151\" data-end=\"2167\">salt and light<\/em> (Matthew 5:13\u201314). If you must be present in such places, let it be to <strong data-start=\"2239\" data-end=\"2260\">preach the Gospel<\/strong>, not to partake in worldly chatter.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"2298\" data-end=\"2301\" \/>\n<h3 data-start=\"2303\" data-end=\"2326\">2. <strong data-start=\"2310\" data-end=\"2326\">Social Media<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2328\" data-end=\"2684\">Modern digital platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram can be powerful tools\u2014or dangerous traps. When we spend long hours consuming ungodly content or participating in meaningless debates, our spiritual sensitivity begins to dull. Even if you&#8217;re a silent observer, simply reading or scrolling through immoral or trivial content affects your heart.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"2686\" data-end=\"2775\">\n<p data-start=\"2688\" data-end=\"2775\"><strong data-start=\"2688\" data-end=\"2709\">Psalm 101:3 (ESV)<\/strong><br data-start=\"2709\" data-end=\"2712\" \/><em data-start=\"2714\" data-end=\"2775\">\u201cI will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"2777\" data-end=\"2918\">What we expose our eyes and ears to matters deeply. We must be intentional with our digital consumption, ensuring it aligns with God\u2019s truth.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"2920\" data-end=\"2923\" \/>\n<h3 data-start=\"2925\" data-end=\"2972\">3. <strong data-start=\"2932\" data-end=\"2972\">Television and Worldly Entertainment<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2974\" data-end=\"3192\">Worldly shows, soap operas, and secular debates often promote values opposed to the Gospel\u2014glorifying adultery, revenge, pride, and wealth without integrity. Even passive viewing can reshape your thoughts and desires.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"3194\" data-end=\"3308\">\n<p data-start=\"3196\" data-end=\"3308\"><strong data-start=\"3196\" data-end=\"3217\">Romans 12:2 (ESV)<\/strong><br data-start=\"3217\" data-end=\"3220\" \/><em data-start=\"3222\" data-end=\"3308\">\u201cDo not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"3310\" data-end=\"3473\">You may not be speaking or acting out what you see\u2014but your <em data-start=\"3370\" data-end=\"3376\">mind<\/em> is being shaped by it. Guard your heart, for \u201cfrom it flow the springs of life\u201d (Proverbs 4:23).<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"3475\" data-end=\"3478\" \/>\n<h3 data-start=\"3480\" data-end=\"3517\">4. <strong data-start=\"3487\" data-end=\"3517\">Secular Novels and Fiction<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"3519\" data-end=\"3749\">Books filled with lustful romance, occult themes, or godless ideologies may appear \u201charmless,\u201d but they subtly draw your affections away from Christ. Stories that glorify immorality or sin can sow seeds of compromise in the heart.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"3751\" data-end=\"3871\">\n<p data-start=\"3753\" data-end=\"3871\"><strong data-start=\"3753\" data-end=\"3778\">Philippians 4:8 (ESV)<\/strong><br data-start=\"3778\" data-end=\"3781\" \/><em data-start=\"3783\" data-end=\"3871\">\u201cWhatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just\u2026 think about these things.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"3873\" data-end=\"4010\">A mind fixed on Christ cannot be nourished by worldly fiction. Choose reading material that builds your faith, not that feeds your flesh.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"4012\" data-end=\"4015\" \/>\n<h2 data-start=\"4017\" data-end=\"4072\"><strong data-start=\"4020\" data-end=\"4072\">A Biblical Example: Dinah, the Daughter of Jacob<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"4074\" data-end=\"4251\">Let\u2019s consider a tragic example from Scripture: Dinah, the daughter of Jacob. She was raised in a godly household, yet a single decision led to the ruin of her purity and honor.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"4253\" data-end=\"4518\">\n<p data-start=\"4255\" data-end=\"4518\"><strong data-start=\"4255\" data-end=\"4279\">Genesis 34:1\u20132 (ESV)<\/strong><br data-start=\"4279\" data-end=\"4282\" \/><em data-start=\"4284\" data-end=\"4518\">\u201cNow Dinah, the daughter of Leah, whom she had borne to Jacob, went out to see the women of the land. And when Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, the prince of the land, saw her, he seized her and lay with her and humiliated her.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"4520\" data-end=\"4701\">Dinah left her home to mingle with the daughters of the land\u2014women who did not know the God of Israel. Her curiosity exposed her to a godless environment, and the result was tragic.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"4703\" data-end=\"4888\">\n<p data-start=\"4705\" data-end=\"4888\"><strong data-start=\"4705\" data-end=\"4729\">Genesis 34:19 (NKJV)<\/strong><br data-start=\"4729\" data-end=\"4732\" \/><em data-start=\"4734\" data-end=\"4888\">\u201cSo the young man did not delay to do the thing, because he delighted in Jacob\u2019s daughter. She was more honorable than all the household of her father.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"4890\" data-end=\"5060\">Despite being the most honorable in her household, she fell. This reveals a sobering truth: no matter how strong your character may seem, <strong data-start=\"5028\" data-end=\"5058\">bad company can destroy it<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5062\" data-end=\"5169\">If a daughter of Jacob\u2014heir to the covenant promises\u2014could be corrupted, who are we to think we are immune?<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"5171\" data-end=\"5174\" \/>\n<h2 data-start=\"5176\" data-end=\"5218\"><strong data-start=\"5179\" data-end=\"5218\">A Word of Caution and Encouragement<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"5220\" data-end=\"5413\">Never boast in your own strength or claim that you are \u201ctoo mature\u201d to be influenced by ungodly talk. The Bible has spoken clearly: <em data-start=\"5352\" data-end=\"5373\">Do not be deceived.<\/em> You are not above the influence of sin.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5415\" data-end=\"5602\">Many Christians today have grown cold in their faith because they exposed themselves to the wrong company\u2014online, in person, or through entertainment\u2014and now they walk far from the Lord.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5604\" data-end=\"5742\">But here is the good news: <strong data-start=\"5631\" data-end=\"5686\">you can guard your heart and rebuild your character<\/strong> by filling your life with what is good, pure, and holy.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"5744\" data-end=\"5823\">\n<p data-start=\"5746\" data-end=\"5823\"><strong data-start=\"5746\" data-end=\"5771\">Colossians 3:16 (ESV)<\/strong><br data-start=\"5771\" data-end=\"5774\" \/><em data-start=\"5776\" data-end=\"5823\">\u201cLet the word of Christ dwell in you richly.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"5825\" data-end=\"6003\">Seek out godly conversations\u2014in church, in Bible study, through Christian books, sermons, and fellowship. These will build up your inner man and strengthen your walk with Christ.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"6005\" data-end=\"6008\" \/>\n<h3 data-start=\"6010\" data-end=\"6032\">Final Exhortation:<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"6034\" data-end=\"6245\">Dear brother, dear sister:<br data-start=\"6060\" data-end=\"6063\" \/>Stay away from corrupt talk. Distance yourself from environments that feed the flesh. Instead, <strong data-start=\"6158\" data-end=\"6177\">pursue holiness<\/strong> and surround yourself with people and conversations that honor God.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"6247\" data-end=\"6413\">\n<p data-start=\"6249\" data-end=\"6413\"><strong data-start=\"6249\" data-end=\"6273\">Ephesians 4:29 (ESV)<\/strong><br data-start=\"6273\" data-end=\"6276\" \/><em data-start=\"6278\" data-end=\"6413\">\u201cLet no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up\u2026 that it may give grace to those who hear.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"6415\" data-end=\"6518\"><strong data-start=\"6415\" data-end=\"6518\">May the Lord Jesus Christ preserve your character, renew your mind, and strengthen your walk.
