Are you truly built on the Rock?<\/span><\/p>\n

If you ask most Christians what \u201cthe Rock\u201d refers to in the Bible, many will quickly respond, \u201cJesus.\u201d And rightly so\u2014Scripture affirms this truth:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.\u201d
\n\u2014 Matthew 21:42<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ.\u201d
\n\u2014 1 Corinthians 10:4<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Clearly, Jesus is the Rock<\/strong>\u2014the unshakable foundation of our salvation and hope. This is a cornerstone of Christology<\/strong> (the doctrine of Christ): Jesus is both the rejected stone and the foundation of the new covenant people of God.<\/p>\n

However, Jesus Himself tells us what it actually means to be built on Him<\/strong>\u2014and it\u2019s not just about knowing who He is.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s look at His words in Matthew 7:24\u201327<\/em>:<\/p>\n

\u201cTherefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice<\/strong> is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
\nThe rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.
\nBut everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice<\/strong> is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.
\nThe rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.\u201d

This passage is the conclusion of Jesus\u2019 Sermon on the Mount<\/strong> (Matthew 5\u20137), which lays out the ethics of the Kingdom of God. Jesus ends this sermon with a call not just to listen<\/strong> but to live<\/strong> His teachings.<\/p>\n

Key Point<\/strong>: The foundation (the \u201crock\u201d) is not merely Jesus\u2019 identity\u2014it is obedience to His Word<\/strong>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This ties to the biblical doctrine of sanctification<\/strong>: the ongoing transformation of the believer’s life through the power of the Holy Spirit and obedience to Christ. James echoes this in his epistle:<\/p>\n

\u201cDo not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.<\/strong>\u201d
