When you open your Bible, who captures your attention the most?<\/span><\/p>\n

Is it Moses the lawgiver? Elijah the miracle-working prophet? David the warrior-king?
Or perhaps your preaching often focuses on Old Testament heroes and their inspiring deeds?<\/p>\n

While these individuals play important roles in redemptive history, none of them are the main subject of the Bible. The Bible is not primarily about people\u2014it is about a Person: Jesus Christ<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

If human characters dominate your Bible reading and preaching, there\u2019s a possibility your spiritual understanding is still limited (cf. 2 Corinthians 3:14\u201316). The Scriptures were written not to glorify men, but to reveal the glory of the Son of God<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Let us consider what the risen Christ Himself said:<\/p>\n

\n

Luke 24:25\u201327 (ESV)<\/strong>
25 And he said to them, \u201cO foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken!
26 Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?\u201d
27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Notice: Jesus didn\u2019t start with Moses or Elijah to honor them, but to explain how they were testifying about Him<\/strong>. The Law, the Prophets, and the Writings all point to Christ.<\/p>\n

\n

CHRIST: THE CENTRAL FIGURE OF SCRIPTURE<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The unity of the Bible revolves around Jesus. From Genesis to Revelation, the storyline unfolds God\u2019s plan of redemption in Christ. Let\u2019s examine how various prophets testified of Him\u2014not just indirectly, but prophetically and clearly<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\n

\u2726 Moses (the Law) spoke of Christ:<\/strong><\/h3>\n
\n

Deuteronomy 18:15 (ESV)<\/strong>
\u201cThe LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your brothers\u2014it is to him you shall listen.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This is a Messianic prophecy<\/strong>. The \u201cprophet like Moses\u201d is fulfilled in Jesus (cf. Acts 3:22\u201323). Moses was a type; Jesus is the ultimate Prophet, Deliverer, and Mediator of a new covenant (Hebrews 3:1\u20136).<\/p>\n

\n

\u2726 Samuel spoke of Christ as the eternal priest:<\/strong><\/h3>\n
\n

1 Samuel 2:35 (ESV)<\/strong>
\u201cAnd I will raise up for myself a faithful priest, who shall do according to what is in my heart and in my mind.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This looks forward to a greater priest than Eli\u2019s sons\u2014a priest who is eternal. Jesus is that High Priest (cf. Hebrews 7:23\u201328), who ministers in the true tabernacle.<\/p>\n

\n

\u2726 Isaiah prophesied the Incarnation and Deity of Christ:<\/strong><\/h3>\n
\n

Isaiah 9:6 (ESV)<\/strong>
\u201cFor to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder… and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Jesus is not only the Son given, but also \u201cMighty God.\u201d This is a clear assertion of Christ\u2019s divinity and kingship<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\n

\u2726 Micah foretold His birth in Bethlehem:<\/strong><\/h3>\n
\n

Micah 5:2 (ESV)<\/strong>
\u201cBut you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah… from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This verse affirms both Christ\u2019s human origin<\/strong> (born in Bethlehem) and His eternal preexistence<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\n

\u2726 David (Psalms) prophesied Christ\u2019s suffering:<\/strong><\/h3>\n
\n

Psalm 22:18 (ESV)<\/strong>
\u201cThey divide my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

Fulfilled in: Matthew 27:35<\/strong>
\u201c\u2026they divided his garments among them by casting lots.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Psalm 22 describes the crucifixion in astonishing detail\u2014written 1,000 years before Christ.<\/p>\n

\n

\u2726 Hosea prophesied the calling of God\u2019s Son:<\/strong><\/h3>\n
\n

Hosea 11:1 (ESV)<\/strong>
\u201cWhen Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

Fulfilled in: Matthew 2:15<\/strong>
\u201c\u2026that what was spoken by the prophet Hosea might be fulfilled, \u2018Out of Egypt I called my son.\u2019\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This shows how Israel\u2019s story typologically points to Jesus\u2014the true Israel.<\/p>\n

\n

\u2726 Jeremiah described the mourning in Bethlehem:<\/strong><\/h3>\n
\n

Jeremiah 31:15 (ESV)<\/strong>
\u201cA voice is heard in Ramah\u2026 Rachel is weeping for her children.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

Fulfilled in: Matthew 2:18<\/strong>, in the slaughter of infants under Herod.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

\u2726 Zechariah predicted the Triumphal Entry:<\/strong><\/h3>\n
\n

Zechariah 9:9 (ESV)<\/strong>
\u201cBehold, your king is coming to you\u2026 humble and mounted on a donkey.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

Fulfilled in: Matthew 21:5<\/strong>, as Jesus entered Jerusalem.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

\u2726 Daniel saw Christ exalted as the \u201cSon of Man\u201d:<\/strong><\/h3>\n
\n

Daniel 7:13\u201314 (ESV)<\/strong>
\u201cAnd behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man\u2026 his dominion is an everlasting dominion.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Jesus referred to this passage about Himself<\/strong> repeatedly (cf. Matthew 26:64).<\/p>\n

\n

\u2726 Malachi foresaw the coming of the Lord to His temple:<\/strong><\/h3>\n
\n

Malachi 3:1 (ESV)<\/strong>
\u201cThe Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Fulfilled when Jesus cleansed the temple (John 2:13\u201317).<\/p>\n

\n

\u2726 Jonah prefigured Jesus\u2019 death and resurrection:<\/strong><\/h3>\n
\n

Matthew 12:40 (ESV)<\/strong>
\u201cFor just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

\u2726 Ezekiel promised the coming of the Spirit through Christ:<\/strong><\/h3>\n
\n

Ezekiel 36:26\u201327<\/strong> speaks of a new heart and the Holy Spirit\u2014fulfilled at Pentecost (Acts 2), made possible through Jesus.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

\u2726 Amos foretold supernatural signs during the crucifixion:<\/strong><\/h3>\n
\n

Amos 8:9 (ESV)<\/strong>
\u201cOn that day\u2026 I will make the sun go down at noon and darken the earth.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

Fulfilled in: Matthew 27:45<\/strong>
\u201cNow from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

\u2726 Joel prophesied the outpouring of the Spirit:<\/strong><\/h3>\n
\n

Joel 2:28\u201332<\/strong>, fulfilled in Acts 2:16\u201321<\/strong>, after Jesus\u2019 resurrection.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

\u2726 Job longed for the Redeemer:<\/strong><\/h3>\n
\n

Job 19:25 (ESV)<\/strong>
\u201cFor I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the earth.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This is one of the clearest Old Testament affirmations of resurrection hope in Christ<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\n

THEOLOGICAL CONCLUSION:<\/strong><\/h2>\n

All the Law, the Prophets, and the Writings testify of Jesus Christ. He is the second Adam<\/strong>, the true Israel<\/strong>, the greater Moses<\/strong>, the perfect High Priest<\/strong>, the Davidic King<\/strong>, the suffering Servant<\/strong>, the glorious Son of Man<\/strong>, and the resurrected Lord<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\n

John 5:39 (ESV)<\/strong>
\u201cYou search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Until we see Christ as the central message of Scripture, we are reading the Bible incompletely.<\/p>\n

\n

Luke 24:44\u201345 (ESV)<\/strong>
\u201cThen he said to them\u2026 everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled. Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

Ephesians 4:13 (ESV)<\/strong>
\u201c\u2026until we all attain\u2026 the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
