(Deuteronomy 1:17)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Answer:<\/strong><br \/>\nThe world <strong>\u201cto fear,\u201d which means \u201cto reverence,\u201d or \u201cto respect.\u201d<\/strong> In biblical theology, <strong>fear<\/strong> (yirah in Hebrew) is a profound reverence and awe toward God, encompassing respect, worship, and obedience.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>When a person <strong>fears another person<\/strong>, it means they hold them in respect and obey their authority.<\/li>\n<li>When a person <strong>fears God<\/strong>, it means they honor Him, obey His commands, and live in submission to His will.<\/li>\n<li>Conversely, to <strong>\u201cfear\u201d<\/strong> means <strong>not to fear or respect <\/strong>to disregard or reject that reverence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>This fear of God<\/strong> is foundational to biblical faith, as Proverbs 9:10 says, \u201cThe fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom\u201d (ESV).<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>1. The Prohibition of Fearing People<\/h3>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Deuteronomy 1:17 (ESV):<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>&#8220;You shall not show partiality in judgment. You shall hear the small and the great alike. This fear is the basis of covenant faithfulness and life.<\/p>\n<p>Other supportive passages include:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Deuteronomy 13:4<\/strong>: \u201cYou shall walk after the LORD your God and fear him and keep his commandments.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><strong>1 Samuel 12:24<\/strong>: \u201cOnly fear the LORD and serve him faithfully.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Psalm 34:9<\/strong>: \u201cFear the LORD, you his saints, for those who fear him have no lack!\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><strong>1 Peter 2:17<\/strong>: \u201cHonor everyone.
