Question:<\/strong> How can you tell if your understanding has been taken captive by the enemy? What are the signs?<\/em><\/p>\n

Blessed be the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Before evaluating whether our understanding has been taken or influenced by spiritual darkness, we need to first understand what the Bible defines as true understanding<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

1. What Is \u201cUnderstanding\u201d According to the Bible?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Let\u2019s look at Job 28:28<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cAnd he said to man, \u2018Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.\u2019\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Biblically, true understanding is not just intellectual knowledge or common sense<\/strong>\u2014it is moral and spiritual discernment. It’s the ability to recognize evil and to turn away from it<\/strong>. According to this verse, someone who does not or cannot separate themselves from evil lacks understanding<\/strong>. In a spiritual sense, their mind has been taken captive.<\/p>\n

This echoes Romans 1:21<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cFor although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

When a person continues in sin and refuses to separate from evil, their thinking becomes futile and darkened<\/strong>\u2014this is evidence of a captive or corrupted mind<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

2. What Does It Look Like When Someone\u2019s Understanding Is Taken Captive?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

To \u201cshun evil\u201d (as Job 28:28 says) means more than resisting temptation in the moment\u2014it means actively distancing yourself<\/strong> from sin and anything that leads to it.<\/p>\n
