Understanding the Text: No Contradiction in Scripture<\/h3>\n

The Bible is internally consistent. Apparent contradictions often come from misunderstandings or reading the text without context (2 Timothy 3:16). Both Matthew and Mark present truthful accounts, just from different angles.<\/p>\n

Matthew\u2019s Account (Matthew 21:18-21)<\/h3>\n

Jesus, hungry in the morning, sees a fig tree with leaves but no fruit. He curses it, saying no fruit will ever grow on it again. Then the tree immediately<\/em> withers. The disciples marvel at how fast it happened.<\/p>\n

This miracle illustrates Jesus\u2019 authority over nature<\/strong> and symbolizes judgment against unfruitfulness (cf. John 15:2). Mark\u2019s Account (Mark 11:12-14, 19-23)<\/h3>\n

Mark records that Jesus approached the tree but it was not the season for figs. After Jesus curses it, the disciples see it the next morning<\/em> completely dried up.<\/p>\n

Mark emphasizes the visible<\/em> result of the curse appearing the following day, showing a natural progression\u2014yet still miraculous because trees don\u2019t usually wither overnight.<\/p>\n

Reconciling the Two Accounts: The Meaning of \u201cImmediately\u201d<\/h3>\n

The Greek word translated as \u201cimmediately\u201d (\u03b5\u1f50\u03b8\u03ad\u03c9\u03c2, euth\u00e9\u014ds) can mean \u201csoon after\u201d or \u201cwithout delay,\u201d but not necessarily \u201cwithin seconds.\u201d<\/p>\n

Consider Mark 1:28<\/p>\n

\u201cImmediately His fame spread throughout all the surrounding region of Galilee.\u201d
\nIt\u2019s clear this took time, yet it\u2019s described as \u201cimmediately\u201d to express rapid spread, not instantaneous.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Similarly, the fig tree began to wither at Jesus\u2019 spoken word (immediate spiritual effect), but the visible<\/em> withering took until the next morning (natural timeline accelerated supernaturally).<\/p>\n
