In Judges 3:17<\/strong>, we read:<\/p>\n

\u201cSo he brought the tribute to Eglon king of Moab. Now Eglon was a very fat man.\u201d (NKJV)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The Swahili word \u201c fat man\u201d<\/strong> means \u201cto grow fat\u201d<\/strong> or \u201cto increase greatly.\u201d<\/strong> In this context, it describes Eglon<\/strong>, the king of Moab, as someone who had become exceedingly fat\u2014both literally and symbolically.<\/p>\n

So this verse can be understood as:<\/p>\n

\u201cThen he presented the tribute to Eglon king of Moab, who had grown extremely fat.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

But beyond the physical meaning, the Bible often uses the concept of “growing fat” to illustrate spiritual complacency<\/strong>, moral decay<\/strong>, and abuse of prosperity<\/strong>. The term appears in other significant passages, including:<\/p>\n

Jeshurun<\/strong> (a poetic name for Israel) is depicted as having grown fat<\/strong>\u2014meaning they became complacent in their prosperity, forgot God, and fell into spiritual rebellion.<\/p>\n

Growing fat in evil is spiritually dangerous<\/strong> and invites the judgment of God.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey have grown fat, they are sleek;

Shall I not punish them for these things?\u201d says the LORD.
\u201cShall I not avenge Myself on such a nation as this?\u201d (NKJV)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In this passage, spiritual fatness<\/strong> symbolizes corruption<\/strong>, self-indulgence<\/strong>, and the oppression of the vulnerable<\/strong>. God asks rhetorically\u2014should such evil go unpunished?<\/p>\n

The Call: Are You Sealed With the Holy Spirit?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit is God\u2019s seal<\/strong> on the life of a believer:<\/p>\n

Ephesians 4:30<\/strong> \u2013 \u201cAnd do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.\u201d (NKJV)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Being filled with the Spirit is the opposite of being “fat” in sin. It is to be empowered, purified, and marked<\/strong> for eternal life.<\/p>\n

The return of the Lord Jesus is imminent.<\/p>\n

Let us not be like those who grew fat in sin and forgot God. Let us be spiritually alert<\/strong>, ready<\/strong>, and sealed with the Holy Spirit<\/strong> for the return of Christ.<\/p>\n
