\u201cSo you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, \u2018We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.\u2019\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\n

\ud83d\udd0d 1. The Background: A Question About Faith<\/strong><\/h3>\n

At the beginning of Luke 17<\/strong>, Jesus was teaching His disciples about forgiveness. After hearing how often they should forgive others, the disciples responded by saying:<\/p>\n

Luke 17:5:<\/strong> \u201cThe apostles said to the Lord, \u2018Increase our faith!\u2019\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

They felt that living this kind of forgiving life required more faith. In their minds, bigger results required bigger faith.<\/p>\n

But Jesus gave them a surprising response:<\/p>\n

Luke 17:6:<\/strong> \u201cIf you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, \u2018Be uprooted and planted in the sea,\u2019 and it will obey you.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u2728 This shows that <\/span>faith is not about size but substance<\/strong>. Even a <\/span>small, living<\/em> faith is powerful when it trusts fully in God. Faith doesn\u2019t grow by asking for more \u2014 it grows through <\/span>obedience and humble service<\/strong>.<\/span><\/h3>\n

\ud83d\udc63 2. Jesus\u2019 Parable of the Servant (Luke 17:7\u20139)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Jesus immediately followed His teaching on faith with a parable:<\/p>\n

Luke 17:7\u20139:<\/strong>
\n\u201cSuppose one of you has a servant plowing or looking after the sheep. Will he say to the servant when he comes in from the field, \u2018Come along now and sit down to eat\u2019?<\/em>
\nWon\u2019t he rather say, \u2018Prepare my supper, get yourself ready and wait on me while I eat and drink; after that you may eat and drink\u2019?<\/em>
\nWill he thank the servant because he did what he was told to do?\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This parable points to how servants relate to their masters: They don\u2019t expect to be thanked for simply doing their job<\/strong>. They serve as an obligation \u2014 not for praise or personal benefit.<\/p>\n

\ud83d\udd11 3. The Main Message \u2013 \u201cWe Are Unworthy Servants\u201d (v.10)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Luke 17:10:<\/strong>
\n\u201cSo you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, \u2018We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.\u2019\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Jesus is teaching a key principle:
\nTrue disciples serve God without entitlement.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\ud83d\udcd6 Biblical Theology Applied:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

A. Grace vs. Works<\/strong><\/h4>\n

We don\u2019t serve God to earn favor or blessings. All that we receive from Him \u2014 including salvation and faith \u2014 is by grace<\/strong>, not merit.<\/p>\n

Ephesians 2:8\u20139:<\/strong>
\n\u201cFor it is by grace you have been saved, through faith\u2014and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God\u2014not by works, so that no one can boast.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Jesus reminds us in Luke 17:10 that even if we obey perfectly, we haven\u2019t earned anything. We\u2019ve only done our duty.<\/strong> This destroys spiritual pride.<\/p>\n

B. Servanthood in the Kingdom of God<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Jesus calls His followers not to seek position or recognition but to serve with humility<\/strong>, just as He did.<\/p>\n

Mark 10:45:<\/strong>
\n\u201cFor even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Kingdom greatness is measured not by status, but by sacrificial service<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\n

\ud83e\udde0 Why This Matters Today<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Many believers grow weary in serving God \u2014 especially when it seems like there’s no reward or recognition. Some stop serving when life doesn\u2019t improve or when blessings seem delayed.<\/p>\n

But Jesus is calling us to mature faith<\/strong> \u2014 faith that continues to serve God even without seeing immediate results.<\/p>\n

Even if you preach for 20 years and see no outward success, or give sacrificially and still struggle financially \u2014 don\u2019t give up<\/strong>. Don\u2019t demand answers. Serve God faithfully, knowing that He sees, He remembers, and His timing is perfect.<\/p>\n

Hebrews 6:10:<\/strong>
\n\u201cGod is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\n

\ud83d\ude4f The Call: Become a Humble Servant<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Let us take Jesus\u2019 words to heart and say:
\n\u201cLord, I\u2019m not serving You for reward. I serve because You are worthy.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Whether He blesses us now or later, our identity is not in what we receive \u2014 but in whom we belong to<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Romans 14:8:<\/strong>
\n\u201cIf we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
