In Genesis 7:11-12<\/strong>, the phrase refers to the fountains of the great deep and the floodgates of heaven<\/strong> that God opened during the Flood. This event demonstrates God\u2019s righteous judgment on a corrupt world (Genesis 6:5-7) and His power over creation:<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the six hundredth year of Noah\u2019s life, on the seventeenth day of the second month\u2014on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened. And rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
