We often hear people say, \u201cLet us read the Scriptures\u201d<\/em>, and at other times, \u201cLet us read the Word.\u201d<\/em> Are these two expressions different, or do they mean the same thing?<\/p>\n

Answer:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

To understand the difference, we must first define each term from a biblical and theological point of view.<\/p>\n

\n

1. What Is \u201cThe Word\u201d?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In the Bible, \u201cthe Word\u201d<\/strong> (Greek: logos<\/em>) often refers to God\u2019s spoken message<\/strong>, a living and active voice<\/strong> coming directly from Him, especially through revelation, dreams, visions, or prophetic utterance.<\/p>\n

In many Old Testament passages, when God gave instructions, warnings, or promises to His prophets, the phrase used was:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Word of the Lord came\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

For instance:<\/p>\n

Genesis 15:1\u00a0<\/strong>
\n\u201cAfter these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision<\/strong>, saying, \u2018Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.\u2019\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This \u201cWord\u201d was not something Abraham read\u2014it was a direct spiritual communication<\/strong> from God. Similar phrases are found throughout Scripture:<\/p>\n
