Shalom, beloved of God!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Among the most vital calls on every believer is the call to truly know Jesus Christ\u2014not simply to know about Him, but to experience Him intimately as Lord, Savior, and King.<\/p>\n

Jesus is the most recognized name in all of human history. From Asia to Africa, from Muslim to Buddhist nations, His name is known. Yet many know Him superficially. The apostle Paul expressed his desire like this:<\/p>\n

\n

\u2026that I may know him and the power of his resurrection\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n

Philippians 3:10, ESV<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

But why does Jesus want us to know Him deeply? Because knowing Him brings spiritual maturity and protection from deception.<\/p>\n

\n

\u2026until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood\u2026 so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n

Ephesians 4:13\u201314, ESV<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

To know Christ is to be grounded. That\u2019s why this study focuses on one of His most significant titles: \u201cThe Son of David.\u201d<\/p>\n

What Does It Mean That Jesus Is the Son of David?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Although Jesus had no earthly biological father, the Bible repeatedly refers to Him as “the Son of David” (see Matthew 1:1; Luke 18:38\u201339; Revelation 22:16). Why?<\/p>\n

In Jewish thought, to be called someone’s “son” can mean more than biological descent\u2014it can imply legal lineage, covenant inheritance, and prophetic fulfillment. Jesus is called the Son of David because He:<\/p>\n

1. Was a legal descendant of David through His adoptive father Joseph.<\/p>\n

2. Inherited the covenant promises God gave to David.<\/p>\n

3. Fulfilled the messianic prophecies that the Messiah would come from David\u2019s line.<\/p>\n

The Davidic Covenant: A Kingdom Without End<\/strong><\/p>\n

In 2 Samuel 7, God made a covenant with King David, promising that one of his descendants would reign on his throne forever:<\/p>\n

\n

And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me. Your throne shall be established forever.<\/em><\/p>\n

2 Samuel 7:16, ESV<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This promise is called the Davidic Covenant. While it initially pointed to Solomon, its ultimate fulfillment is found in Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n

The angel Gabriel confirmed this when he spoke to Mary:<\/p>\n

\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

…and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.<\/em><\/p>\n

Luke 1:32\u201333, ESV<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Thus, Jesus is the eternal heir to David\u2019s throne, fulfilling God’s unbreakable promise.<\/p>\n

A Cut-Off Royal Line Restored<\/strong><\/p>\n

After David, Solomon reigned. But through centuries of rebellion, idolatry, and sin, the Davidic monarchy fell. The last king of Judah, Zedekiah, was taken into exile during the Babylonian conquest (2 Kings 25:6\u20137), and the throne was left empty.<\/p>\n

From then on, the line of David continued\u2014but in obscurity, not in power. Joseph, the husband of Mary, was a direct descendant of David (Matthew 1:6\u201316), yet he lived as a humble carpenter. He should have been king, had Israel remained faithful to the covenant.<\/p>\n

This is where Isaiah\u2019s prophecy becomes powerful:<\/p>\n

\n

There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.<\/em><\/p>\n

Isaiah 11:1, ESV<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

Jesse was David\u2019s father. The \u201cstump\u201d represents a dynasty that was cut down. But God promised a \u201cshoot\u201d\u2014a new life springing from old roots. That shoot is Jesus Christ, born in a humble manger, yet destined for the throne<\/p>\n

Jesus: Born King, Not Made King<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jesus was born with royal identity, not crowned by men. The wise men understood this at His birth:<\/p>\n

\n

Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.<\/em><\/p>\n

Matthew 2:2, ESV<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Even blind Bartimaeus cried out:<\/p>\n

\n

Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!<\/em><\/p>\n

Mark 10:47, ESV<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Why? Because the Jews were waiting for a Davidic Messiah, as foretold in the Psalms and Prophets:<\/p>\n

\n

The LORD says to my Lord: \u2018Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool.<\/em><\/p>\n

Psalm 110:1, ESV<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Jesus’ Kingdom Is Not of This World\u2014Yet<\/p>\n

Jesus did not seek political power during His first coming. He told Pilate:<\/p>\n

\n

My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting…<\/em><\/p>\n

John 18:36, ESV<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

At His first coming, He brought salvation, not government. But His second coming will inaugurate His literal reign on the earth.<\/p>\n

\n

They will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings…<\/em><\/p>\n

Revelation 17:14, ESV<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

And again.<\/p>\n

\n

On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.<\/em><\/p>\n

Revelation 19:16, ESV<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The Coming Millennial Reign<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jesus will reign for 1,000 years on earth, fulfilling the full scope of the Davidic promise:<\/p>\n

\n

..and they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.<\/em><\/p>\n

Revelation 20:4, ESV<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

During this time, the peace and justice Isaiah foretold will be visible:<\/p>\n

\n

The wolf shall dwell with the lamb\u2026 the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.<\/em><\/p>\n

Isaiah 11:6\u20139, ESV<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Those who are faithful to Christ now will reign with Him then:<\/p>\n

\n

The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne…<\/em><\/p>\n

Revelation 3:21, ESV<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Jesus Declares: I Am the Root and Offspring of David<\/p>\n

Jesus Himself confirmed His divine and royal identity:<\/p>\n

\n

I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.<\/em><\/p>\n

Revelation 22:16, ESV<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

He is both the source (Root) and fulfillment (Offspring) of David’s line.<\/p>\n

The Door of Grace Is Still Open<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jesus is soon returning\u2014not as the suffering Lamb\u2014but as the reigning King. If you have not yet surrendered your life to Him, now is the time. He stands at the door and knocks:<\/p>\n

\n

Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n

Revelation 3:20, ESV<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

And He invites you freely:<\/p>\n

\n

Let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price.<\/em><\/p>\n

Revelation 22:17, ESV<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Conclusion:<\/strong> Bow Before the King<\/p>\n

Jesus Christ, the Son of David, is more than a historical figure\u2014He is the eternal King.<\/p>\n

He fulfilled prophecy, inherited the promises, and will soon return to rule and reign.<\/p>\n

Will you be part of His Kingdom?<\/p>\n

Now is the time to repent and believe the gospel.<\/p>\n

Tomorrow is not promised\u2014but eternity with the Son of David is.<\/p>\n

May the Lord bless you and open your heart to receive the true King.<\/strong><\/p>\n
