One of the commonly asked theological questions is: This question touches on the relationship between divine foreknowledge and human responsibility<\/strong>, a subject of great depth in Christian theology.<\/p>\n It is true that Scripture contains many prophecies\u2014some concerning those who will be saved, and others about those who will be lost. But we must understand that God’s foreknowledge does not override human free will<\/strong>. The fact that something is foretold does not mean the person involved had no choice.<\/p>\n Isaiah 46:10<\/strong> \u2013 \u201cDeclaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not yet done, saying, \u2018My counsel shall stand, and I will do all My pleasure.\u2019\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n God\u2019s sovereignty allows Him to know all things in advance, but He still holds each individual accountable for their decisions. This includes Judas Iscariot.<\/p>\n Scripture speaks of two groups in the final judgment\u2014those who will inherit eternal life<\/strong> and those who will face condemnation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Matthew 8:11<\/strong> \u2013 \u201cAnd I say to you that many will come from east and west, and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n This prophecy refers to Gentiles who will enter the kingdom by faith, showing that salvation is open to all people groups.<\/p>\n Matthew 7:22\u201323<\/strong> \u2013 \u201cMany will say to Me in that day, \u2018Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name…? He never says, \u201cThis specific person will be lost,\u201d or \u201cThat person will be saved.\u201d Instead, the Bible reveals the types of people<\/strong>, their choices<\/strong>, and the outcomes<\/strong> of those choices.<\/p>\n 2 Peter 3:9<\/strong> \u2013 \u201cThe Lord is not slack concerning His promise… but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Salvation is available to everyone. The decision rests with us.<\/p>\n The betrayal of Jesus was prophesied, but again, no name was mentioned<\/strong>. The prophecy identified the character<\/strong> and actions<\/strong> of the betrayer, not his identity.<\/p>\n Psalm 41:9<\/strong> \u2013 \u201cEven my own familiar friend in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Jesus quoted this prophecy in John 13:18<\/strong>, applying it to His betrayal. Yet, this prophecy could have been fulfilled by any<\/strong> of the twelve disciples\u2014it depended on who would allow their heart to be corrupted by greed and disobedience.<\/p>\n Judas made conscious, repeated decisions<\/strong> that aligned with betrayal. He was the group\u2019s treasurer and misused his position.<\/p>\n John 12:6<\/strong> \u2013 \u201c…he was a thief, and had the money box; and he used to take what was put in it.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Even when Jesus warned that one of them would betray Him, Judas didn\u2019t turn back or seek forgiveness. This shows willful rebellion<\/strong> despite knowledge of the truth.<\/p>\n Matthew 26:24<\/strong> \u2013 \u201cThe Son of Man indeed goes just as it is written of Him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for that man if he had not been born.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n These are not the words of a man who was merely playing out a role. Jesus declares severe judgment<\/strong> upon Judas, proving his personal guilt.<\/p>\n In the end, Judas acknowledged his own sin<\/strong>, but his repentance was filled with remorse, not transformation.<\/p>\n Matthew 27:4\u20135<\/strong> \u2013 \u201cI have sinned by betraying innocent blood… Then he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple and departed, and went and hanged himself.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n His story is a tragic example of a man who walked with Jesus<\/strong>, witnessed His miracles, heard His teachings\u2014and yet chose darkness.<\/p>\n The story of Judas is a warning for us all. Judas is gone\u2014but now the spotlight is on our generation. What role will we<\/strong> play in fulfilling prophecy?<\/p>\n Paul wrote about the character of people in the last days:<\/p>\n 2 Timothy 3:1\u20135<\/strong> \u2013 The word \u201ctraitors\u201d is particularly striking. Judas was one. But in the last days, many will fall into this category\u2014people who claim to follow God outwardly<\/strong>, but whose hearts are far from Him.<\/p>\n If we live in pride, greed, lust, or hypocrisy, we become modern-day fulfillers of that prophecy. In that case, we are not better than Judas\u2014we may even be worse.<\/p>\n Hebrews 10:26\u201327<\/strong> \u2013 So, which prophecy will you fulfill?<\/p>\n Will you be counted among those who sit with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven?<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Or will you be among those who are told, \u201cDepart from Me, I never knew you\u201d?<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n The choice is yours. As with Judas, God will not force anyone<\/strong>. But He has given us everything we need for salvation through Christ Jesus.<\/p>\n Deuteronomy 30:19<\/strong> \u2013 \u201cI have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Judas was guilty because he chose betrayal, despite every opportunity to do what was right. The prophecy was fulfilled through<\/strong> him\u2014not because<\/strong> of him. He was not a puppet; he was a free agent.<\/p>\n Let his story serve as a solemn warning to each of us today.
