\nTheme:<\/strong> God\u2019s Promise and Oath as the Believer\u2019s Anchor<\/p>\n

Introduction:<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In the Christian journey, faith can sometimes be shaken by trials, doubts, or uncertainty. But Scripture offers a firm foundation two unchangeable things <\/strong>that serve as a steadfast anchor for our souls. These are not abstract ideas but divine realities backed by God’s own nature and character.<\/p>\n

The writer of Hebrews points us to these two things in<\/p>\n

Hebrews 6:17\u201319 (NIV)<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

17<\/strong> “Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath.
\n18<\/strong> God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged.
\n19<\/strong> We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain…”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

1. The Context: God\u2019s Dealings with Abraham<\/strong><\/h2>\n

To understand this passage, we must go back to the story of Abraham. God gave him an extraordinary promise: that he would be the father of many nations and that through his offspring all nations would be blessed (Genesis 12:1\u20133, 15:5\u20136).<\/p>\n

However, in Genesis 22:15\u201318<\/strong>, after Abraham\u2019s faithful obedience in offering Isaac, God confirmed His promise with an oath<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

Genesis 22:16\u201317 (NIV):<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n\u201cI swear by myself,\u201d declares the LORD, \u201cthat because you have done this\u2026 I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars\u2026\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In ancient times, oaths were solemn and binding.<\/p>\n

Hebrews 6:16 explains, <\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cMen swear by someone greater than themselves, and the oath confirms what is said and puts an end to all argument.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

God, having no one greater, swore by Himself<\/strong>. This is not because His Word was insufficient, but to accommodate human weakness<\/strong> and offer absolute assurance (see also<\/p>\n

Numbers 23:19, <\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cGod is not a man, that he should lie\u2026\u201d<\/em>).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

2. What Are the Two Unchangeable Things?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

According to Hebrews 6:18, these two unchangeable things are:<\/p>\n
