Many believers today long for a personal, tangible encounter with Jesus \u2014 to hear His voice audibly, to see His face, to walk with Him physically. But Scripture reveals something greater than outward experience: the inner revelation of Christ through His Word<\/strong>.<\/p>\n After His resurrection, Jesus appeared to two disciples walking to Emmaus, yet they didn\u2019t recognize Him. Why? Because their spiritual perception<\/strong> was not yet opened \u2014 a condition common even among believers today.<\/p>\n Let\u2019s revisit that powerful story \u2014 and ask ourselves: Has Jesus opened our minds to understand the Scriptures?<\/strong><\/p>\n \ud83d\udcd6 Luke 24:13\u201316 (NIV)<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cNow that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem. They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; but they were kept from recognizing him.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Jesus didn\u2019t appear with angelic light or divine power \u2014 He simply walked with them in the form of a man<\/strong>. They were discussing Him, and where two or three gather in His name<\/em>, He is present (Matthew 18:20). This shows us that Christ honors spiritual fellowship<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Yet the disciples couldn\u2019t recognize Him \u2014 not because He looked different, but because \u201cthey were kept from recognizing him.\u201d<\/strong> (v. 16). This signifies that spiritual blindness<\/strong> is not due to lack of information, but lack of divine revelation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n \ud83d\udcd6 Luke 24:25\u201327 (NIV)<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cHe said to them, \u2018How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?\u2019 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Notice: Jesus didn\u2019t first reveal Himself physically \u2014 He revealed Himself through the Word<\/strong>.<\/p>\n \ud83d\udd0e Theological Insight:<\/strong> Here, Jesus affirms the authority and unity of the Old Testament \u2014 showing that from Moses (Torah)<\/strong> to the Prophets<\/strong>, the entire Hebrew Bible points to Himself<\/strong> (cf. John 5:39).<\/p>\n \ud83d\udcd6 Luke 24:32 (NIV)<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cThey asked each other, \u2018Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?\u2019\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n When Jesus expounds the Word, it ignites spiritual hunger<\/strong>, recognition<\/strong>, and conviction<\/strong>. This inner burning is the witness of the Holy Spirit<\/strong> (Romans 8:16), stirring believers toward deeper understanding and love for Christ<\/strong>.<\/p>\n \ud83d\udcd6 Luke 24:30\u201331 (NIV)<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cWhen he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n It was not sight<\/strong>, but shared communion<\/strong> \u2014 centered around the breaking of bread<\/strong>, that opened their eyes. This is deeply symbolic of:<\/p>\n Recognition of Christ becomes clear when we share the table with Him<\/strong> and embrace the Word<\/strong> He reveals.<\/p>\n \ud83d\udcd6 Luke 24:44\u201345 (NIV)<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cHe said to them, \u2018This is what I told you while I was still with you: everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.\u2019 Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n \ud83d\udd0e Theological Insight:<\/strong> But now, in Christ, this veil is removed (2 Corinthians 3:14\u201316). He opens our minds<\/strong> (Greek: dianoig\u014d<\/em> \u2013 \u201cto open thoroughly\u201d) to grasp the full counsel of God<\/strong> revealed in Scripture.<\/p>\n Jesus wants us to understand His person and mission not merely through experiences<\/strong>, but through Scripture<\/strong>. This is why biblical literacy<\/strong> is not optional \u2014 it is the foundation of Christian discipleship.<\/p>\n Even after seeing Jesus risen, many disciples still doubted (Luke 24:37\u201341). Even Judas, who lived with Jesus for years, saw His miracles and heard His teachings, still betrayed Him<\/strong> (Luke 22:3\u20136). \u201cWhere two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.\u201d \u2014 Matthew 18:20 (NIV)<\/em> Just as the two on the road to Emmaus experienced Christ when walking and talking together about Him, we too encounter Jesus when we engage in Spirit-led Bible study and fellowship<\/strong>. Christ honors gatherings focused on His name and His Word<\/strong>.<\/p>\n If you find yourself uninterested in reading the Bible \u2014 or struggling to understand it \u2014 ask Jesus to open your mind<\/strong>, as He did for the disciples.<\/p>\n But remember:<\/p>\n If Jesus wanted us to follow His image, He would have left us a picture. Instead, He left us the living Word<\/strong> \u2014 and the Holy Spirit to illuminate it.<\/p>\n \u201cLord Jesus, open my mind to understand Your Word. Stir my heart as You did for the disciples on the road to Emmaus. Help me to seek You not through feelings or images, but through the living and enduring truth of Scripture.
