\u2014 Psalm 69:8 (ESV)<\/strong><\/p>\n In Swahili, the word \u201cMsikwao\u201d<\/strong> refers to a foreigner or outsider<\/strong>\u2014someone who comes from a different land or community and is seen as not belonging. So, when the Psalmist (David) says \u201cI have become a stranger to my brothers,\u201d<\/em> it means he was being rejected or treated like a foreigner<\/strong>, even among his closest family.<\/p>\n Psalm 69 is a Messianic Psalm<\/strong>, meaning that although it was written by David about his own life, it prophetically foreshadows the life and sufferings of Jesus Christ<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Throughout the New Testament, various verses from Psalm 69 are directly applied to Jesus, showing us that this Psalm isn\u2019t just historical\u2014it\u2019s deeply prophetic<\/strong>.<\/p>\n David writes:<\/p>\n \u201cI have become a stranger to my brothers, an alien to my mother\u2019s sons.\u201d<\/strong> This was fulfilled in the life of Jesus<\/strong>, who was rejected by His own people<\/strong>, including His blood relatives<\/strong> and the nation of Israel<\/strong>.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd when His family heard it, they went out to seize Him, for they were saying, \u2018He is out of His mind.\u2019\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n \u201cFor not even His brothers believed in Him.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Even though Jesus was the Messiah, His own family doubted Him<\/strong>, and the religious leaders of Israel rejected Him as an outsider. This fulfills the image of being a \u201cMsikwao<\/em>\u201d\u2014an alien or stranger\u2014even among His own people.<\/p>\n Psalm 69 continues:<\/p>\n \u201cFor zeal for Your house has consumed me, and the reproaches of those who reproach You have fallen on me.\u201d<\/strong> This verse is quoted in the New Testament when Jesus cleanses the temple<\/strong>, showing that He was driven by deep passion for His Father\u2019s glory.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd He told those who sold the pigeons, \u2018Take these things away; do not make My Father’s house a house of trade.\u2019 His disciples remembered that it was written, \u2018Zeal for Your house will consume me.\u2019\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Jesus was so devoted to God\u2019s holiness<\/strong> that He confronted corruption in the temple\u2014causing people to hate Him even more. His passion made Him a target.<\/p>\n Another key prophecy in Psalm 69 is echoed in:<\/p>\n \u201cEven my close friend in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has lifted his heel against me.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Jesus quotes this verse when referring to Judas Iscariot<\/strong>, who would betray Him:<\/p>\n \u201cI am not speaking of all of you; I know whom I have chosen. Jesus Himself said that the Law, the Prophets, and the Psalms<\/strong> all point to Him:<\/p>\n \u201cThese are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n So when we read Psalm 69, we’re not just reading David\u2019s story\u2014we’re reading the story of Christ\u2019s rejection, suffering, and obedience<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Jesus told His followers that just as He was rejected<\/strong>, we too would face rejection for following Him.<\/p>\n \u201cIf the world hates you, know that it has hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world… the world hates you.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n So if you are mistreated<\/strong>, excluded<\/strong>, or even rejected by your own family<\/strong> for your faith in Christ, remember\u2014you are not alone. Jesus went through it first<\/strong>. He knows how it feels.<\/p>\n \u201cIn the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n When you walk in obedience to God, there will be moments where you feel like a \u201cMsikwao\u201d<\/strong>\u2014an outsider. But do not be discouraged. You\u2019re not walking alone.<\/p>\n Your rejection is evidence of your identity in Christ<\/strong>.
