In the blessed name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ\u2014welcome. Today, by the grace of God, we\u2019ll explore an urgent and crucial message from Scripture: how to escape the spiritual lukewarmness<\/strong> that characterizes this present age.<\/p>\n In Revelation chapters 2 and 3<\/strong>, Jesus gives personal messages to seven historical churches in Asia Minor (modern-day Turkey). While these churches were real congregations, they also symbolize seven distinct periods or “ages” of church history<\/strong>\u2014a view held by many conservative theologians and prophetic scholars.<\/p>\n These churches include:<\/p>\n Many Bible scholars interpret that we are currently in the Laodicean era<\/strong>\u2014the final phase of the Church before the return of Christ<\/strong> (also known as the Rapture).<\/p>\n Let\u2019s read Christ\u2019s rebuke to Laodicea from Revelation 3:14\u201322 (ESV):<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cAnd to the angel of the church in Laodicea write: Jesus introduces Himself with divine titles:<\/p>\n His words carry absolute authority<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Jesus says, “Because you are lukewarm… I will spit you out of my mouth” (Rev 3:16). This metaphor comes from Laodicea\u2019s geography<\/strong>: its water supply, piped in from hot springs and cold streams, arrived lukewarm\u2014useless and nauseating<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Spiritual lukewarmness<\/strong> means half-heartedness\u2014people who:<\/p>\n God prefers hot (zealous faith) or cold (honest unbelief) to spiritual pretense<\/strong>.<\/p>\n \u201cFor you say, I am rich\u2026 not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked.\u201d (Rev 3:17)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n The Laodicean church mistakes material prosperity for spiritual success<\/strong>, a trap many fall into today. Theologically, this is a denial of the doctrine of total depravity<\/strong>\u2014we often think too highly of ourselves and forget that righteousness comes only through Christ (Romans 3:10\u201318).<\/p>\n Jesus offers true riches<\/strong>:<\/p>\n \u201cThose whom I love, I reprove and discipline\u201d (Rev 3:19)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Discipline from God is not rejection but an expression of His love<\/strong> (see Hebrews 12:6\u201311). Christ\u2019s rebuke to Laodicea is a call to repentance<\/strong>\u2014to turn away from sin and lukewarmness and back to wholehearted devotion.<\/p>\n \u201cBehold, I stand at the door and knock\u2026\u201d (Rev 3:20)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n This verse is not just an evangelistic appeal<\/strong>, but a call to a straying church<\/strong>\u2014Jesus wants fellowship with His people. The table fellowship reflects intimacy and restoration (cf. John 14:23, Luke 24:30\u201331).<\/p>\n Ephesians 6:11\u201312 (ESV) teaches:<\/p>\n \u201cPut on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. There are hierarchies in the demonic realm<\/strong>, and the spirit behind Laodicean lukewarmness is not weak. It is a high-ranking, deceptive spirit<\/strong>, empowered by Satan to seduce entire generations<\/strong>.<\/p>\n 2 Corinthians 11:14\u201315 (ESV) says:<\/p>\n \u201cSatan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness\u2026\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n This spirit of lukewarmness<\/strong> tells people:<\/p>\n The only way to overcome this spiritual deception is through:<\/p>\n Acts 3:19 (ESV)<\/em>: \u201cRepent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n Romans 8:13\u201314 (ESV)<\/em>: \u201cIf by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n John 14:15 (ESV)<\/em>: \u201cIf you love me, you will keep my commandments.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n 2 Corinthians 13:5 (ESV)<\/em>: \u201cExamine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith\u2026\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n Wearing the mask of Christianity while living in unrepentant sin is dangerous. Jesus said in Matthew 23:25\u201326 (ESV)<\/em>:<\/p>\n \u201cWoe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup\u2026 but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n To those who live this double life, Jesus says:<\/p>\n \u201cI will spit you out of my mouth.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n If you see signs of lukewarmness in your life:<\/p>\n
