This short letter was addressed to the saints who were scattered and living as strangers in different regions of\u00a0Asia Minor<\/strong>\u00a0(modern-day\u00a0Turkey<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

The central themes of the letter can be divided into\u00a0four main sections<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

    To\u00a0comfort believers<\/strong>\u00a0by reminding them of the eternal glory prepared in heaven, which will be revealed at the last day. Because of this hope, they are encouraged to rejoice even in the trials of faith, which are only temporary.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    To\u00a0urge Christians to live holy lives<\/strong>\u00a0that are pleasing to God during their earthly journey.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  3. \n

    To emphasize the\u00a0responsibility of believers to live with discipline and integrity<\/strong>\u00a0among non-believers, so that their conduct glorifies God.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    To remind\u00a0church leaders<\/strong>\u00a0to faithfully shepherd the flock of Christ, and to encourage the entire church to\u00a0resist the devil<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    1. Comfort in Times of Trials<\/h2>\n

    Peter encourages believers to rejoice, even in suffering, because of the priceless value of their faith, which will be rewarded when Christ is revealed.<\/p>\n

    In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith\u2014of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire\u2014may result in praise, glory, and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.<\/p>\n

    Peter reminds us to\u00a0follow Christ\u2019s example<\/strong>: though He suffered unjustly, He did not retaliate. Likewise, we are to endure suffering with gentleness, patience, and perseverance.<\/p>\n

    2. The Call to Live Holy Lives<\/h2>\n

    Because believers await the grace to be revealed when Jesus Christ returns, Peter calls them to live with\u00a0self-control and holiness<\/strong>\u00a0here on earth.<\/p>\n

    \u201cTherefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: \u2018Be holy, because I am holy.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
