Bawabu (in English, Doorkeeper or Porter) who is this in the Bible?<\/span><\/p>\n

A doorkeeper is someone stationed at the entrance, responsible for opening and closing the gate, and for deciding who or what is allowed to enter. Such people were commonly positioned at the gates of large cities, royal palaces, and temples.<\/p>\n

2 Samuel 18:26<\/p>\n

Then the watchman saw another man running, and he called down to the gatekeeper, \u201cLook, another man is running alone!\u201d<\/p>\n

The king said, \u201cHe must be bringing good news, too.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

1 Chronicles 9:23, 27<\/p>\n

23 So they and their descendants were in charge of guarding the gates of the house of the Lord the house called the tent of meeting.<\/p>\n

27 They spent the night stationed around the house of God because they were responsible for guarding it; and they had charge of the key for opening it each morning.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This was often considered one of the lowest positions in royal service or temple duty much like today, where such work may seem humble or insignificant.<\/p>\n

But David said:<\/p>\n

Psalm 84:10<\/p>\n

\u201cBetter is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere;<\/p>\n

I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God<\/p>\n

than dwell in the tents of the wicked.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

David used this humble role a position of little honor in a great palace to express that, if such a role existed in God\u2019s house, he would gladly take it. To him, even the smallest task done for God was far better than the highest position or privilege found in worldly pursuits.<\/p>\n

He understood the value of serving God, no matter how small the role. David recognized that losing just one day of service to God was like wasting a thousand days (almost three years) on worldly struggles. Think about it three years spent chasing worldly matters could be less meaningful than one day spent cleaning a church restroom in faithfulness to God.<\/p>\n

So, ask yourself: What is your role in the house of God?<\/p>\n

What contribution are you making to the spreading of His work?<\/p>\n

Where are you investing your energy and resources?<\/p>\n

Or have you come to believe that God\u2019s work has no real value?<\/p>\n

David declared,<\/p>\n

\u201cI would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n
