In the days of ancient Israel, God commanded Moses to establish Cities of Refuge \u2014 special places where anyone who accidentally killed another person could flee for safety until justice was carried out.<\/p>\n
\u201cSpeak to the children of Israel, and say to them: When you cross the Jordan into the land of Canaan,
\nthen you shall appoint cities to be cities of refuge for you,
\nthat the manslayer who kills any person accidentally may flee there.\u201d
\n\u2014 Numbers 35:10\u201311<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\nThere were six cities in total \u2014 three on each side of the Jordan River \u2014 and they served as sanctuaries for those who unintentionally took a life. These cities symbolized God\u2019s mercy and justice.<\/p>\n
The person who caused death by accident could run to these cities before the avenger of blood reached him. There, he would find protection until he stood before the congregation for judgment.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd they shall be cities of refuge for you from the avenger,
\nthat the manslayer may not die until he stands before the congregation in judgment.\u201d
\n\u2014 Numbers 35:12<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
\nA SYMBOL OF CHRIST OUR REFUGE<\/h2>\n
The Cities of Refuge were a prophetic picture of Jesus Christ \u2014 our eternal refuge from judgment and condemnation. Just as the manslayer fled to the city for safety, so we flee to Christ for salvation.<\/p>\n
Without the City of Refuge, the guilty person would be killed.
\nWithout Christ, the sinner faces eternal death.<\/p>\n\u201cThe name of the Lord is a strong tower;
\nthe righteous run to it and are safe.\u201d
\n\u2014 Proverbs 18:10<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\nJust as those cities were easily accessible to everyone, the door of salvation through Jesus is open to all people \u2014 rich or poor, Jew or Gentile, man or woman. Anyone can run to Him for mercy and forgiveness.<\/p>\n
\u201cCome to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.\u201d
\n\u2014 Matthew 11:28<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
\nTHE HIGH PRIEST AND THE END OF CONDEMNATION<\/h2>\n
In the Old Testament, the one who fled to a City of Refuge had to remain there until the death of the high priest. When the high priest died, the manslayer was free to return home, no longer in danger of death.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut if the manslayer at any time goes outside the limits of the city of refuge where he fled,
\nand the avenger of blood finds him outside the limits of his city of refuge,
\nand the avenger of blood kills the manslayer, he shall not be guilty of blood,
\nbecause he should have remained in his city of refuge until the death of the high priest.
\nBut after the death of the high priest, the manslayer may return to the land of his possession.\u201d
\n\u2014 Numbers 35:26\u201328<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\nThis was a prophetic symbol of Christ\u2019s redemptive work.
\nWhen our High Priest \u2014 Jesus Christ \u2014 died on the cross, our debt was fully paid, and our guilt removed. His death set us free from the curse of sin and from the hand of the avenger, who represents Satan and divine judgment.<\/p>\n\u201cBut Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come,
\nwith the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands,
\nthat is, not of this creation.
\nNot with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood
\nHe entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.\u201d
\n\u2014 Hebrews 9:11\u201312<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
\nRUN TO CHRIST \u2014 YOUR CITY OF REFUGE<\/h2>\n
Beloved, the message of the Cities of Refuge is a call to run to Jesus without delay.
\nThe world today is full of sin, guilt, and condemnation.
\nEvery person has sinned and stands guilty before a holy God \u2014 yet there is a place of safety.<\/p>\nThat place is in Christ alone.
\nHe invites every sinner to flee to Him and find mercy before it\u2019s too late.<\/p>\n\u201cThat by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie,
\nwe might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us.\u201d
\n\u2014 Hebrews 6:18<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\nIf you have not yet come to Him, the time is now.
\nDo not wait until judgment catches up with you.
\nThe avenger of blood \u2014 sin and death \u2014 is near, but Christ still stands with open arms saying,<\/p>\n\u201cWhoever comes to Me I will by no means cast out.\u201d
\n\u2014 John 6:37<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
\nA FINAL CALL<\/h2>\n
The gates of the City of Refuge were never closed.
\nDay or night, anyone could run and find safety.
\nIn the same way, the grace of God is still open today, but one day the door will shut when Christ returns.<\/p>\nRun to Him today. Confess your sins. Receive forgiveness through His blood.
\nHe is your refuge, your protector, and your deliverer.<\/p>\n\u201cFor You have been a refuge for me,
\na strong tower from the enemy.\u201d

\nPrayer:
\nLord Jesus, You are my refuge and my salvation.
\nI run to You today with all my heart.
\nForgive my sins, cleanse me by Your blood, and keep me safe within Your mercy.
