What does it mean to be <strong>bewitched<\/strong>? And could it be that <strong>you yourself have been bewitched<\/strong>?<\/p>\n<p>You might ask: <strong>Can the people of God be bewitched?<\/strong><br \/>The answer is <strong>Yes.<\/strong> The Bible shows that it can happen. But the way believers are \u201cbewitched\u201d in Scripture is very different from how the world understands witchcraft. Today we will examine the <strong>biblical meaning of being bewitched.<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>The World\u2019s Understanding of Bewitchment<\/h2>\n<p>In many societies today, when people hear the word <em>bewitched<\/em>, they immediately think of <strong>witchcraft or sorcery<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>For example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If a person is poor, people may say he has been bewitched.<\/li>\n<li>If someone suffers from a long illness, people may say he is bewitched.<\/li>\n<li>If someone has mental problems, they may say he is bewitched.<\/li>\n<li>If someone experiences weakness or misfortune, the conclusion may be that he has been bewitched.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>However, <strong>the Bible speaks of a deeper and more dangerous form of bewitchment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h1>The Biblical Meaning of Bewitchment<\/h1>\n<p>Let us read from the Scriptures:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Galatians 3:1\u20133 (KJV)<\/strong><br \/>\u201cO foolish Galatians, <strong>who hath bewitched you<\/strong>, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?<br \/>This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?<br \/>Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>When reading the Epistle to the Galatians, we see that <strong>the Apostle Paul strongly rebuked the believers in Galatia<\/strong>. By the power of the Holy Spirit, he confronted them about their <strong>spiritual condition<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The Galatian Christians had:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Begun well in the faith<\/li>\n<li>Received the true gospel of Jesus Christ<\/li>\n<li>Followed the teachings delivered by the apostles<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>But after some time, <strong>false teachers entered among them<\/strong>, bringing <strong>strange teachings<\/strong>. The believers began accepting these teachings and gradually <strong>abandoned the true gospel of Christ<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This is what Paul describes as <strong>being bewitched<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h1>Bewitchment as Spiritual Deception<\/h1>\n<p>Biblically, <strong>bewitchment is spiritual deception that leads believers away from the truth of the gospel<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>There can be no bewitchment without a <strong>bewitcher<\/strong>. In the case of the Galatians, those who bewitched them were <strong>false teachers<\/strong> who distorted the Word of God.<\/p>\n<p>These teachers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Twisted the gospel<\/li>\n<li>Promoted religious legalism<\/li>\n<li>Encouraged dependence on the Law rather than faith in Christ<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Apostle Paul warned about such people.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Philippians 3:18\u201321 (KJV)<\/strong><br \/>\u201cFor many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are <strong>the enemies of the cross of Christ<\/strong>:<br \/>Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.<br \/>For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:<br \/>Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Paul even declared a <strong>curse upon those who preach a different gospel<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Galatians 1:6\u20139 (KJV)<\/strong><br \/>\u201cI marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:<br \/>Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.<br \/>But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, <strong>let him be accursed<\/strong>.<br \/>As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, <strong>let him be accursed<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<h1>Signs That Someone Has Been Spiritually Bewitched<\/h1>\n<p>A person may be spiritually bewitched when they <strong>abandon biblical truth and follow teachings that contradict Scripture.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Examples include abandoning the gospel that teaches:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Salvation is necessary in this life<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Holiness is required to see God<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Hebrews 12:14 (KJV)<\/strong><br \/>\u201cFollow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Other examples include believing teachings that say:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A person can enter heaven only through a specific denomination<\/li>\n<li>God will not judge sinners<\/li>\n<li>Immorality will not lead to condemnation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Yet Scripture clearly warns:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>1 Corinthians 6:9\u201310 (KJV)<\/strong><br \/>\u201cKnow ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,<br \/>Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Some teachings also claim that <strong>there is a second chance after death<\/strong>, but the Bible states:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Hebrews 9:27 (KJV)<\/strong><br \/>\u201cAnd as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Others teach that there are many mediators between God and humanity. But Scripture declares:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>1 Timothy 2:5 (KJV)<\/strong><br \/>\u201cFor there is one God, and <strong>one mediator between God and men<\/strong>, the man Christ Jesus.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<h1>The Most Dangerous Witchcraft<\/h1>\n<p>The greatest deception of Satan is not merely causing people to suffer earthly problems such as poverty, sickness, or barrenness.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>greatest spiritual deception<\/strong> is to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Keep people from truly knowing Christ<\/li>\n<li>Lead them into lukewarm faith<\/li>\n<li>Cause them to worship idols<\/li>\n<li>Turn them away from the truth of the gospel<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This deception spreads through <strong>false prophets and false teachers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The Bible warns about them.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Matthew 24:11 (KJV)<\/strong><br \/>\u201cAnd many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>These individuals often appear outwardly spiritual, but their message <strong>does not center on Jesus Christ<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h1>The Spirit of True Prophecy<\/h1>\n<p>True prophecy always <strong>points people to Jesus Christ<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>For example, John the Baptist\u2014though a prophet\u2014focused his ministry on <strong>testifying about Christ<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Scripture explains the essence of true prophecy:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Revelation 19:10 (KJV)<\/strong><br \/>\u201cFor the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Any ministry that does not exalt Christ and call people to repentance, holiness, and obedience to God should be carefully examined.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h1>A Call to Discernment<\/h1>\n<p>Believers must therefore be <strong>spiritually discerning<\/strong>, especially in these last days.<\/p>\n<p>The Scriptures warn us that <strong>false prophets will increase<\/strong>, and many will be deceived.<\/p>\n<p>The safest path is to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Study the Word of God<\/li>\n<li>Test every teaching by Scripture<\/li>\n<li>Remain rooted in the true gospel of Jesus Christ<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Acts 17:11 (KJV)<\/strong><br \/>\u201cThey received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>May the Lord bless you and guide you into the truth of His Word.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<div class='share-to-whatsapp-wrapper'><div class='share-on-whsp'>Share on: <\/div><a data-text='WHO HAS BEWITCHED YOU?' data-link='https:\/\/wingulamashahidi.org\/en\/2020\/02\/26\/who-has-bewitched-you\/' class='whatsapp-button whatsapp-share'>WhatsApp<\/a><div class='clear '><\/div><\/div><p class=\"wpf_wrapper\"><a class=\"print_link\" href=\"\">Print this post<\/a><\/p><!-- .wpf_wrapper -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0 Home \/ Home \/ Who Has Bewitched You?
