And He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant John, who bore witness to the word of God, and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, to all things that he saw.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\u2014 <em>Revelation 1:1\u20132 (NKJV)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>1. The Revelation Belongs to Jesus Christ<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>First, we see John writing, saying <em>\u201cThe Revelation of Jesus Christ.\u201d<\/em> This means what he received was <strong>not his own revelation<\/strong>, but <strong>the revelation of Jesus Himself<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>John was the apostle who had a uniquely close relationship with the Lord. Scripture shows him as the disciple whom Jesus loved, often leaning on Jesus\u2019 bosom.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cNow there was leaning on Jesus\u2019 bosom one of His disciples, whom Jesus loved.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\u2014 <em>John 13:23 (NKJV)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cPeter, turning around, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\u2014 <em>John 21:20 (NKJV)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>During the Last Supper, when Jesus announced that one disciple would betray Him, Peter motioned to John to ask Jesus who it was. This shows how close John was to Christ.<\/p>\n<p>Because of this intimate fellowship, John received the grace of divine <strong>revelation<\/strong> concerning future events and the last days.<\/p>\n<p>This mirrors the prophet Daniel, who was also greatly beloved by God:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cO Daniel, man greatly beloved\u2026\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\u2014 <em>Daniel 10:11 (NKJV)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Theological insight:<\/strong><br \/>Deep revelation is often entrusted to those who walk closely with God in obedience and intimacy. Likewise, believers who please the Lord grow in spiritual understanding (John 15:15).<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>2. The Blessing of Revelation<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Verse 3 declares:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cBlessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\u2014 <em>Revelation 1:3 (NKJV)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Three conditions of blessing appear here:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Reading<\/strong> the prophecy<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hearing<\/strong> (spiritual understanding, not merely physical hearing)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Keeping<\/strong> or living according to it<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Spiritual hearing refers to inner revelation given by the Holy Spirit:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cHe who has ears to hear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\u2014 <em>Revelation 2:7 (NIV)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Not everyone understands Revelation easily because spiritual truth is revealed by the Spirit of God.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cThe natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God\u2026 they are spiritually discerned.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\u2014 <em>1 Corinthians 2:14 (NKJV)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>3. Greeting to the Seven Churches<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>John continues:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cGrace to you and peace from Him who is and who was and who is to come\u2026 and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\u2014 <em>Revelation 1:4\u20135 (NKJV)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This greeting reveals important theological truths:<\/p>\n<h3><strong>a) The Eternal Nature of God<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>\u201cWho is, and who was, and who is to come\u201d reveals God\u2019s eternal existence \u2014 without beginning or end.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cFrom everlasting to everlasting, You are God.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\u2014 <em>Psalm 90:2 (NKJV)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3><strong>b) The Seven Spirits of God<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The \u201cseven spirits\u201d do not mean God has seven different spirits. Rather, they symbolize the <strong>perfect fullness and operation of the Holy Spirit<\/strong>, especially toward the seven churches.<\/p>\n<p>Compare with:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cThe Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him\u2026 the Spirit of wisdom and understanding\u2026 counsel and might\u2026 knowledge and the fear of the LORD.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\u2014 <em>Isaiah 11:2 (NKJV)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Seven represents completeness or perfection in biblical symbolism.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>4. Christ\u2019s Redemptive Work<\/strong><\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cTo Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\u2014 <em>Revelation 1:5 (NKJV)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>God entered human history to redeem humanity.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cGod was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\u2014 <em>2 Corinthians 5:19 (NKJV)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cGod was manifested in the flesh.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\u2014 <em>1 Timothy 3:16 (NKJV)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Jesus is therefore the visible manifestation of God\u2019s saving work.<\/p>\n<p>Through Him believers become:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201ca kingdom and priests to serve His God and Father.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\u2014 <em>Revelation 1:6 (NIV)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>5. The Second Coming of Christ<\/strong><\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cBehold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\u2014 <em>Revelation 1:7 (NKJV)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This refers to Christ\u2019s visible return in glory.<\/p>\n<p>Jesus Himself taught:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cThey will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\u2014 <em>Matthew 24:30 (NKJV)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This is distinct from the catching away of the church and describes His public return to judge the world.<\/p>\n<p>See also:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Jude 1:14<\/li>\n<li>Revelation 19:11\u201321<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>6. John on the Island of Patmos<\/strong><\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cI, John\u2026 was on the island that is called Patmos for the word of God and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\u2014 <em>Revelation 1:9 (NKJV)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Patmos was a place of exile for prisoners. John suffered because of his faith.<\/p>\n<p>Christian identity includes perseverance through suffering:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cThrough many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\u2014 <em>Acts 14:22 (NKJV)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Often, deeper revelation comes during trials.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>7. The Vision of the Son of Man<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>John saw:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cOne like the Son of Man\u2026 clothed with a garment down to the feet.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\u2014 <em>Revelation 1:13 (NKJV)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Every detail of this vision carries symbolic meaning.<\/p>\n<h3>White Hair \u2014 The Judge<\/h3>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cHis head and hair were white like wool.\u201d<\/strong> (Rev 1:14)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Symbolizes purity, wisdom, and righteous judgment.<\/p>\n<h3>Eyes Like Fire<\/h3>\n<p>Represents Christ\u2019s perfect knowledge and judgment.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cNothing in all creation is hidden from God\u2019s sight.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\u2014 <em>Hebrews 4:13 (NIV)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>Feet Like Bronze<\/h3>\n<p>Symbolize judgment against sin and evil.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>8. The Sword from His Mouth \u2014 The Word of God<\/strong><\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cOut of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\u2014 <em>Revelation 1:16 (NKJV)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This sword represents God\u2019s Word.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cFor the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\u2014 <em>Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Word judges both believers and unbelievers.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>9. John Falls Before Christ<\/strong><\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cWhen I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\u2014 <em>Revelation 1:17 (NKJV)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The glory of Christ produces reverent fear.<\/p>\n<p>Jesus reassures him:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cDo not be afraid; I am the First and the Last. I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore\u2026 and I have the keys of Hades and of Death.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\u2014 <em>Revelation 1:17\u201318 (NKJV)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>These titles reveal Jesus as:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The Eternal One<\/li>\n<li>The Risen Lord<\/li>\n<li>The One with authority over death and the grave<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>10. The Seven Stars and Seven Lampstands<\/strong><\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u201cThe seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands\u2026 are the seven churches.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\u2014 <em>Revelation 1:20 (NKJV)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Christ stands among His churches, showing His continual presence and authority within them.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>11.
