As we saw in the previous chapter, Daniel received a vision through the angel Gabriel while standing beside the River Hiddekel (Tigris), recorded in <strong>Daniel chapter 10<\/strong>. Chapters <strong>11 and 12<\/strong> continue the same conversation between Gabriel and Daniel.<\/p>\n<p>After Daniel humbled himself before God through fasting and prayer, God revealed to him events that would occur both in his historical period and in the <strong>end times<\/strong>, with greater detail.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Daniel 10:12 (NKJV)<\/strong><br \/>\u201cDo not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This shows an important theological principle: <strong>revelation follows humility and prayer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>Daniel 11:1\u20132 \u2014 The Persian Kings<\/strong><\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Daniel 11:2 (NKJV)<\/strong><br \/>\u201cBehold, three more kings will arise in Persia, and the fourth shall be far richer than them all\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Gabriel explains that three kings would arise in Persia, followed by a fourth stronger and wealthier than the others.<\/p>\n<p>Historically, after King Cyrus came several Persian rulers, and the fourth widely identified ruler is <strong>Ahasuerus (Xerxes I)<\/strong>, the king mentioned in the Book of Esther, who ruled from India to Cush over <strong>127 provinces<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Esther 1:1 (NKJV)<\/strong><br \/>\u201cThis is what happened during the time of Xerxes, the Xerxes who ruled over 127 provinces stretching from India to Cush.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>His military conflict with Greece eventually led to Persia\u2019s downfall and the rise of the Greek Empire.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>Daniel 11:3\u20134 \u2014 Alexander the Great<\/strong><\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Daniel 11:3\u20134 (NKJV)<\/strong><br \/>\u201cThen a mighty king shall arise, who shall rule with great dominion\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The \u201cmighty king\u201d refers to <strong>Alexander the Great<\/strong>, who conquered Persia rapidly.<\/p>\n<p>The prophecy states his kingdom would be divided and not inherited by his descendants. Historically, Alexander died at age 32, and his empire was divided among four generals \u2014 fulfilling the prophecy precisely.<\/p>\n<p>This connects with Daniel\u2019s earlier vision:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Daniel 8:21\u201322 (NKJV)<\/strong> \u2014 the great horn broken and replaced by four kingdoms.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Theological Insight:<\/strong><br \/>God rules over world empires; history unfolds according to divine sovereignty.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>Daniel 11:5 \u2014 The Kings of the North and South<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>After Alexander\u2019s empire divided:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>South (Egypt)<\/strong> \u2014 ruled by the Ptolemies<\/li>\n<li><strong>North (Syria region)<\/strong> \u2014 ruled by the Seleucids<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Seleucus eventually became stronger than Ptolemy, fulfilling the prophecy that one ruler would gain greater dominion.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>Daniel 11:6 \u2014 Political Marriage and Betrayal<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>A political alliance occurred through marriage between <strong>Berenice<\/strong> (daughter of the southern king) and the northern king <strong>Antiochus II<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The prophecy foretold betrayal and death \u2014 which history confirms when Berenice and her child were murdered after political intrigue.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Theological Lesson:<\/strong><br \/>Human alliances without righteousness cannot secure lasting peace.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Psalm 146:3 (NKJV)<\/strong><br \/>\u201cDo not put your trust in princes, nor in a son of man, in whom there is no help.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>Daniel 11:7\u20139 \u2014 Revenge and War<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Berenice\u2019s brother, <strong>Ptolemy III<\/strong>, attacked the northern kingdom and carried treasures back to Egypt, exactly as prophesied.<\/p>\n<p>This demonstrates the remarkable historical precision of biblical prophecy.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>Daniel 11:10\u201312 \u2014 Continuing Wars<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Successive wars followed between the northern and southern kingdoms. Victory temporarily favored the South at the <strong>Battle of Raphia (217 BC)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Yet pride followed victory:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Daniel 11:12 (NKJV)<\/strong><br \/>\u201cHis heart shall be lifted up\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Theological Insight:<\/strong><br \/>Victory without humility leads to spiritual downfall.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Proverbs 16:18 (NKJV)<\/strong><br \/>\u201cPride goes before destruction.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>Daniel 11:13\u201316 \u2014 Antiochus III (\u201cThe Great\u201d)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Antiochus III defeated Egypt and gained control over the <strong>\u201cGlorious Land\u201d<\/strong> (Israel).<\/p>\n<p>Some Jews supported him, unknowingly paving the way for later persecution.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Spiritual Principle:<\/strong><br \/>God\u2019s people must discern alliances carefully.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>Daniel 11:17\u201319 \u2014 Failed Strategy and Roman Defeat<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Antiochus III gave his daughter Cleopatra in marriage hoping to control Egypt, but the plan failed.<\/p>\n<p>Later, Roman forces defeated him, fulfilling prophecy that his disgrace would return upon himself.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>Daniel 11:20 \u2014 A Taxing King<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Seleucus IV imposed heavy taxation and died shortly afterward, just as foretold.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>Daniel 11:21 \u2014 Antiochus IV Epiphanes<\/strong><\/h2>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Daniel 11:21 (NKJV)<\/strong><br \/>\u201cA vile person shall arise\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This refers to <strong>Antiochus IV Epiphanes<\/strong>, who gained power through deception and flattery rather than rightful succession.<\/p>\n<p>He becomes a <strong>prophetic type (foreshadow)<\/strong> of the future Antichrist.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>Daniel 11:22\u201335 \u2014 Persecution and the Abomination<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Antiochus attacked Jerusalem, desecrated the temple, and stopped daily sacrifices, placing a pagan image (Zeus) inside the temple.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Daniel 11:31 (NKJV)<\/strong><br \/>\u201cThey shall take away the daily sacrifices, and place there the abomination of desolation.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Jesus later referenced this prophecy as having a future fulfillment:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Matthew 24:15 (NKJV)<\/strong><br \/>\u201cWhen you see the \u2018abomination of desolation\u2019 spoken of by Daniel the prophet\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This shows <strong>dual fulfillment<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Historical (Antiochus IV)<\/li>\n<li>Future (end-time Antichrist)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>Antiochus as a Type of the Antichrist<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Paul describes a similar figure:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>2 Thessalonians 2:3\u20134 (NKJV)<\/strong><br \/>\u201c\u2026the man of sin\u2026 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Theologically, Antiochus serves as a <strong>shadow or prototype<\/strong> of the final rebellious world ruler.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>Daniel 11:36\u201345 \u2014 The Self-Exalting King<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The prophecy shifts toward an ultimate end-time ruler characterized by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Self-exaltation<\/li>\n<li>Blasphemy against God<\/li>\n<li>Political domination<\/li>\n<li>Sudden destruction<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Daniel 11:45 (NKJV)<\/strong><br \/>\u201cYet he shall come to his end, and no one will help him.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This parallels Revelation\u2019s judgment imagery:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Revelation 18:8 (NKJV)<\/strong><br \/>\u201cHer plagues will come in one day\u2014death and mourning and famine.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>Purpose of the Revelation to Daniel<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Gabriel revealed these events to help Daniel understand <strong>God\u2019s sovereign plan across history<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Prophecy strengthens faith by showing that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>God controls kingdoms.<\/li>\n<li>Evil has a limited time.<\/li>\n<li>Final victory belongs to God.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Isaiah 46:10 (NKJV)<\/strong><br \/>\u201cDeclaring the end from the beginning.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>Application for Believers Today<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Just as Daniel sought understanding through prayer, believers today must seek spiritual discernment.<\/p>\n<p>Christ spoke of seven churches in:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Revelation chapters 2\u20133<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These represent spiritual conditions within the Church across history and warn believers to remain faithful.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Call to Holiness<\/strong><\/h3>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Hebrews 12:14 (NKJV)<\/strong><br \/>\u201cPursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The central message is preparation for Christ\u2019s return.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Matthew 24:44 (NKJV)<\/strong><br \/>\u201cTherefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Daniel 11 demonstrates:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The accuracy of biblical prophecy<\/li>\n<li>God\u2019s sovereignty over world history<\/li>\n<li>The rise and fall of empires under divine authority<\/li>\n<li>A
