How to Overcome the Whirlwind

How to Overcome the Whirlwind

(Proverbs 10:25)

 Proverbs 10:25 (KJV):

“As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.”

Question:

What is the meaning of this verse, Proverbs 10:25?

“As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.”

Answer:

This verse is self-explanatory when we reflect on the parable that Jesus Christ gave concerning people who hear His words and choose whether or not to obey them. Let’s read:

Matthew 7:24–27 (KJV):

24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

When we compare this to Proverbs 10:25, it becomes clear who the wicked person is.
It is the one who hears the gospel but refuses to obey it.
It’s the person who claims to be saved, yet their life shows no fruit of salvation. Spiritually, they are indistinguishable from those who have never known God at all. These are the unrighteous, still bound in sin, not yet redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ.

They may appear outwardly holy, but when the whirlwind of trials, afflictions, persecution, or suffering for Christ comes, they quickly fall away. They return to their old ways as if they never knew God—because their lives were not founded on the Rock (Jesus Christ).

For others, it’s not suffering that causes the fall, but prosperity—when they succeed, gain wealth or prestige, they forget God. Some abandon their faith after getting married, achieving academic success, or climbing the social ladder. They only followed Jesus during times of hardship.

But the one who hears Christ’s words and obeys them is the complete opposite. Such a person becomes an everlasting foundation—immovable, unshaken by wind, storms, or whirlwinds. Why? Because they are built on the Rock, who is Christ.

1 Corinthians 3:11 (KJV):

“For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”

Call to Action:

Get saved. Receive forgiveness of sins, and then live out your repentance by walking in obedience. In this way, you will always be ready to stand firm in every season.

James 1:22 (KJV):

“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”

Luke 6:46–48 (KJV):

“And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:
He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.”
