Our Lord Jesus Christ… He is truly risen. Every event that took place during the crucifixion of our Lord Jesus, His burial, and His resurrection was purposeful and full of profound revelation. There was no accident or event outside God’s sovereign plan. Even the event of Jesus carrying His cross to Golgotha, wounded all over His body, had already been foretold—it was likened to a lamb being led to the slaughter. Isaiah 53:7 (KJV)“He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.” The piercing of Jesus’ side with a spear was also foretold (see Zechariah 12:10) and had deep spiritual and physical meaning. Spiritually, it revealed the cleansing power of His blood and water. Through His blood, our sins are purified and completely forgiven; through the water, we are cleansed by the Word of God. Ephesians 5:26“That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word.” Another physical purpose for the spear wound at His side during Calvary was to confirm His death. Had Jesus not been pierced, some could falsely claim He only fainted on the cross and was not truly dead when placed in the tomb, which would have made the claim of resurrection a deception. The Roman soldiers were skilled in ensuring death by this method. The event of Pilate writing the inscription in three languages on Jesus’ cross was not by chance, but carried deep spiritual meaning. It was a prophecy that in the future, Christ’s gospel would be preached and proclaimed to all nations and languages. John 19:19-22 (KJV)“And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS. This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin. Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews. Pilate answered, What I have written I have written.” A few days later, on the day of Pentecost, those filled with the Holy Spirit spoke in many new tongues from all over the known world. This fulfilled the prophecy that the news of Jesus’ death and resurrection would be preached worldwide in every language and to every people. At that time, the three major languages were Hebrew, Latin, and Greek, but today there are over 6,000 languages, and Christ has been proclaimed in all. Why was a large stone placed to seal Jesus’ tomb, with a seal to ensure no one could enter or exit? The stone was enormous, requiring several men to move it. Even the large group of women who came on the first day of the week needed help to move it. Mark 16:2-4 (KJV)“And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun. And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre? And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great.” The angel did not merely roll the stone to the entrance as movies show, but rolled it far away from the tomb. Luke 24:1-2 (KJV)“Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.” The stone was far from the tomb, not just moved away from the door. This shows that a true miracle occurred at the tomb — Jesus truly rose from the dead. Also, God allowed the two guards to see the angel descending from heaven like lightning and to report the resurrection to the chief priests (Matthew 28:1-4), so there would be witnesses on both sides. Without this, a greater falsehood would have arisen at the resurrection. All these events happened so that you and I may believe Jesus was crucified, died, and rose again from the dead. If you believe this today, you will be saved. If you have been stirred to believe that Christ is alive today, not in the tomb, and that He can save your life and raise you from the dead, what you must do is repent of all your sins now and ask for mercy. You were once in sin, but He wants to cleanse and purify you because He loves you. His love is immeasurable and incomparable. He is ready to forgive you no matter how great your sins. He will forgive and forget all your sins, and before Him, you will be as though you never sinned. Now, wherever you are, take a few moments alone. Kneel down and pray this prayer with faith, knowing God is close to you and listening: Prayer of Repentance:“O GOD THE FATHER, I COME BEFORE YOU, ACKNOWLEDGING THAT I AM A SINNER AND THAT I HAVE SINNED MANY TIMES, AND THAT I DESERVE JUDGMENT. BUT YOU, MY GOD, HAVE SAID IN YOUR WORD THAT YOU ARE A GOD OF MERCY WHO SHOWS COMPASSION TO THOUSANDS WHO LOVE YOU. TODAY I COME BEFORE YOU SEEKING YOUR FORGIVENESS AND HELP, REPENTING OF ALL MY SINS WITH ALL MY HEART. I CONFESS THAT JESUS CHRIST IS LORD, AND HE IS THE SAVIOR OF THIS WORLD. THEREFORE, I ASK THAT THE BLOOD OF YOUR HOLY SON CLEANSE ALL MY EVIL NOW, MAKE ME A NEW CREATURE STARTING TODAY AND FOREVER. THANK YOU LORD JESUS FOR ACCEPTING ME AND FORGIVING ME. AMEN.” If you have prayed this prayer with faith, the next step is to demonstrate your repentance through actions—stop doing those things that displease God. If you were immoral, stop sinning sexually; if you watched pornography, stop now; if you were a thief, blasphemer, corrupt, murderer, adulterer, stop those sins. When God sees your sincere change, He will receive your repentance and come into your heart to live forever. You should also find a spiritual church community to worship God together, learn the Bible, and grow in salvation. Also, receive the proper baptism by immersion in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins.
