QUESTION: What is the meaning of this verse? Ecclesiastes 10: 2 “A wise man’s heart is at his right hand; But a fool’s heart is at his left”.
ANSWER: This verse clearly shows us that the human heart, which is on the side of the abode, is not in the air without a home, it is either on the right hand side, or on the left side. Remember that the heart referred to here is not the fleshy heart, but the spiritual one that describes one’s character.
As we know the right hand is the hand of honor, the hand of showing care, and purity, unlike the left hand, and that is why when you meet anyone somewhere you will not greet him/her using the left hand, but you will give him/her the right hand to show respect, and caring.
Likewise with our hearts, if it does not show Respect, and purity and concern for God and for mankind, Our hearts seems to be on the left. And in the day of judgment God will set us on his left hand. But if we are spiritually clean, and care for God and for people (especially brothers in the faith), on that day the Lord will set us at his right hand where the heart is.
These passages clearly describe the behaviors on the right and left hand,
Let’s read;
Matthew 25:31 “When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: 32 and all the nations shall be gathered before him; and he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats; 33 He will set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will tell those on his right hand, ‘Come, blessed of my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; 35 for I was hungry, and ye gave me to eat; I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink; I was a stranger, and you took me in; 36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. I was in prison, and you came to me. 37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? Or thirsty, and gave thee drink? 38 And when saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? Or naked, and clothed thee? 39 And when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? 40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. 41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: 42 for I was hungry, and ye did not give me to eat; I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink; 43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in; naked, and ye shall not clothe me; I was sick, and in prison, and you didn’t look at me. 44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? 45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not unto one of these least, ye did it not unto me. 46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment; but the righteous shall go into life eternal”.

40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
42 for I was hungry, and ye did not give me to eat; I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink;
43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in; naked, and ye shall not clothe me; I was sick, and in prison, and you didn’t look at me.

45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not unto one of these least, ye did it not unto me.
46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment; but the righteous shall go into life eternal”.
See?, so may the Lord grant us wisdom, to make sure that our hearts are not on the left but on the right, for the characteristics listed above.
The Lord bless you.
