Blessed be the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, Today we will learn very briefly about paying tithes, Scripturally tithes are the 10th part, of one’s income to God. So tithing is one of the types of offerings.
Before we go to deeper to learn about the importance of paying tithes, whether it is necessary or not! Let’s learn first a little more about the history of tithes.
Tithing for the first time began to be paid by a man named Abraham, who is known as the Father of Faith.
We read about this in Genesis 14
Genesis 14:17 “And it came to pass, that, when Abram was returned from following Chedorlaomer, and the kings that were with him, then the king of Sodom went out to meet him in the valley of Shaveh, which is the king’s dale. 18 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God. 19 And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth: 20 And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. ABRAM GAVE HIM A TITHE OF ALL THINGS ”.
19 And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth:
20 And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. ABRAM GAVE HIM A TITHE OF ALL THINGS ”.
Abraham gave the tithes to this Melchizedek, remember this Melchizedek was God incarnate… and is also known as the High Priest, the image of the Son of God (Jesus Christ) having neither father nor mother, nor beginning of days or ending of days. So it was God Himself who came in human form.
It came to pass when Abram was come out to rescue his uncle Lot, who had been taken captive together with his sons, on the way back he met Melchizedek, and this Melchizedek was carrying Wine and Bread, and he gave it to Abram and because Abram loved God so much, he did not consider it necessary to receive free gifts without giving…Above all God has appeared to him and succeeded him in the midst of his enemies and defeated them! So he was touched with it and he saw it was not right not to give anything back to his God, so he decided on his own without being told by anyone to give his God 10th part of his possessions!!! What kind of heart is that? Remember he was not even told by God to do that, only he himself had something in him that made him feel bad if he saw his God leave empty-handed, and that is nothing but the Holy Spirit in him.
Did the law work?
Now at that time there was no law, no 10 commandments and God did not enter into a Covenant with Abraham about tithes, the law of tithes came about 400 years later, it was necessary to pay tithes, if a person did not pay tithes it was considered a sin for him!, and before God he was like a thief (Malachi 3:8-9).
But now we are not living by the law but by faith, and the Faith we are talking about is the same Faith as that of Abraham, that is, the Faith of doing things without compulsion, and that Faith is the same as Abraham, of giving God 10 percent unconditionally! ..Abraham gave unconditionally, no law, no law! because the Law had not yet come, nor was it compelled, nor was it implanted or implored; nor inquiring God, he said God is my giver (Jehovah-YIRE), so if he has given me a large portion of these things, then why shouldn’t I repay him at least 10 percent of the things he has given me. And he made it his law always! Every 10th he gets he gives back to God.
Brethren, Abraham met Melchisedec, and even now this Melchisedec is with us and he is none other than our Lord Jesus Christ, the scripture proves that..
Hebrews 6:20 “When Jesus, who came before us, was our forerunner, he was a high priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.”
Hebrews 7: 1 “For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him; 2 To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; (The translation of his first name is King of Righteousness, and again, King of Salem, meaning, King of Peace; 3 He has no father, no mother, no parents, no beginning of days, nor end of life, but is likened to the Son of God); he remains a priest forever. 4 Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils.
Hebrews 7: 1 “For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;
2 To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; (The translation of his first name is King of Righteousness, and again, King of Salem, meaning, King of Peace;
3 He has no father, no mother, no parents, no beginning of days, nor end of life, but is likened to the Son of God); he remains a priest forever.
4 Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils.
Hebrews 5: 5 “So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee. 6 As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec”.
Hebrews 5: 5 “So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee.
6 As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec”.
You have seen that Christ was likened to Melchizedek, and as Melchizedek was given the 10th part by Abraham, so also Christ is entitled to the 10th part, because he is the Melchizedek of our Covenant, and just as Melchizedek fought for Abraham, so Christ now fights for us.
And just as Abraham gave Melchizedek the 10th verse without any conditions, or without law, or without law, or without any preaching, or without counsel, or without any other motive, so today we must offer JESUS CHRIST 10th part. without any law, without any restrictions, without any preaching, without being influenced by any man.
It should be a heartfelt expression that we recognize the presence of Jesus Christ in our lives and so we honor him by giving him 10th part, he is not after our money! But he is watching over our hearts! And the Lord Jesus Himself allowed that in (Matthew 23:23).
If you see someone objecting to pay TITHES! And to give to God, That’s proof that He doesn’t have the HOLY SPIRIT in him! It is one of the proofs of a man who lacked the Holy Spirit in him!.
Because it is clear that he does not love God, because he cannot thank God for giving even 10 percent of his possessions and giving them back to him, even though he inhales free of charge, tramples on land that is not his own, eats food that he does not know how to make! He does not appreciate even the Christ who gave his life for him. In short he is an ungrateful man.
And how can such a person thank God for giving 10 percent of his life to preach the Gospel ?, how can he give even his life for the sake of the Gospel ?, or how can he die for the Faith? If only 10 per cent of his money could not give it ?. How can that Person even give up everything and follow Christ if only tithe giving is war? Just think!
So TITHES are not something to be avoided at all! It is not given by law or by the law, nor is it written in the Bible, but by the heart like Abraham!
If you don’t have a job that gives you an income then you are free !, but whatever you get other than work give it away the 10th part of it, give it back to your God, you have no job but you have been given a certain amount of money make sure you give out the tithes, and give wholeheartedly without coercion, because our God is not a revenue collector! He wants us to give to Him wholeheartedly and joyfully, realizing the importance of giving to Him as Abraham did.
Now the question is what! If you don’t pay tithes will you go to hell?
What will send a person to hell is not the act of breaking the tithe or committing adultery, or stealing, or insulting no !! what will send a person to hell is the lack of the Holy Spirit in him,
where now the result of not having the Holy Spirit is that he will now be a thief, a fornicator, a blasphemer, a man without a heart to give, he will not be able to help others, and he will not contribute anything to the kingdom of heaven through his giving, he will also be unforgiving, Because A person with the Holy Spirit cannot do any of these things because the Holy Spirit will be speaking in him about sin and he will also be pushing him about why he do not give to God, so he cannot avoid paying tithes as he cannot help others or pray.
There is a saying that “I am perfect in every way! Except for tithes I do not give!”
That is a lie of the devil brother! it is impossible for a person to be perfect in all things and then miss one thing that does not pay tithes! There is no such thing!
If a person does not pay tithes while he can, then he must also be evil in other respects, it is the same as saying that this person is holy in everything but the only defect is an adulterer! That is a lie… One sin interacts with another, the adulterer must be greedy, resentful, a liar and a traitor, jealous, a competitor even if on the outside he will not be seen but in his heart he has all that.
So avoiding tithing is a sign of lack of the Spirit, and all those who do not have the Spirit of God the Bible says they are not His (read Romans 8: 9), and if they are not His then they will go to hell!
The Lord Bless you.
